Beretta.Net - Chat Channel

Beretta.net Chat Channels

IRC Traditional Chat Channel

BerettaNet members frequently gather on Internet Relay Chat (IRC) to have live discussions.

There are many ways of getting onto chat. Telnet is one way. If you are unfamiliar with Telnet, then you should skip this and read the following instructions.
Click here to Telnet into telnet.dal.net.
Once you have joined and have a nickname chosen, type:
/join #chevyberetta to join the discussion.

The following are instructions on exactly how to download the software
required and how to setup the software to access IRC.

Note: These instructions are only good for Windows95 or Windows 3.1 users. If there are any Macintosh users that could send me a list similar to this explaining how other Mac users can get onto IRC, I'd appreciate it!

  1. Go to http://www.mirc.co.uk/get.html and download mIRC. mIRC is one of the most popular IRC clients. This is the software you need to talk to us.

  2. Install the software by running the executable (.exe) file.

  3. mIRC will create a windows program group. Click on mIRC32 (or mIRC16 for Windows 3.1 users) in this program group.

  4. The mIRC license window will come up. Click the checkbox in the lower right hand corner. Then close the license window. This will prevent it from coming up in the future.

  5. The mIRC setup window will come up. Under IRC SERVERS: Select "Random US DALnet server" (this should be default).
Under Full Name, type in your name.
Under Email Address, type in your email address.
Now you must choose a nickname. It must be 9 characters or less and cannot begin with a number. Type it in the Nickname box. Select an alternate nickname for the Alternative box. This will be chosen in the event that your regular nickname is taken. For example, "pKx" is my Nickname and "pKx-" is my Alternative.

  6. Click on the third tab from the left in the mIRC setup window, "Options."
Check the "Connect At Startup" checkbox.
Check the "Reconnect at disconnect" checkbox.

  7. Click on the fourth tab from the left in the mIRC setup window, "Identd."
Check the checkbox "Enable Identd Server."
Type your Nickname in the "User ID" box.

  8. Click on the "OK" button at the bottom of the mIRC setup window.

  9. mIRC is now setup properly. To "connect to the server", click on the lightning bolt icon. It is located in the upper left hand region of the mIRC window.

  10. Once you have connected, the "mIRC Channels Folder" window will pop up. All channels begin with a "#".
Type in the name of our channel, #chevyberetta
    Then hit the "JOIN" button.
You're in! On the right hand side of the screen, you will see a list of people in the room.
Everyone in the room will see whatever you type!
  11. If you have problems please contact Patrick Boutwell.
