Autocross: Stuff to Bring
Autocross Preparation

The following is a listing of items that I have found to be useful when attending an autocross event. Most events run all day long, so being properly prepared goes a long way to helping you have the funnest experience possible. You may or may not need everything here, and often other competitors have stuff that they will gladly loan. Just another reason to like autocrossing!

  • Proper clothing for expected weather conditions: If you think its going to rain, bring a jacket!

  • Sun protection: Sunscreen, sunglasses and a hat. You'll be out in the sun (if its sunny) all day, so this is a no-brainer.

  • Comfortable footwear: You'll be standing and walking around a lot, so a good pair of shoes is helpful.

  • Food: At the minimum, some water is necessary. A small cooler with snacks and/or lunch is a good idea, but not necessary. Most events have lunch breaks so people can go out and get something.

  • White shoe polish: You'll need to have a number on your car for identification/timekeeping purposes. Shoe polish on the windows is an easy way to do this for the beginner. Don't forget the window cleaner for cleanup!

  • Tire pressure guage: Very important! You'll be surprised at how much a 1-2psi change in tire pressures will affect your car's handling on an autocross course. Its smart to keep close tabs on tire pressure.

  • Tools: This will vary. You might want to rotate tires, or you might have a to fix a small problem in the engine bay that requires a screwdriver. Someone will usually have a nice tool kit you can borrow from, but it might be helpful to bring a few items if you think you'll need them.
