better gas mileage

Keep the tire pressure at the spec, don't put fat tires on, don't have a leadfoot, clean the engine and dump some injector cleaner in the tank, Keep the tranny good (filter should be replaced), air filter, plugs at proper gap, good cables, and a good muffler (not a glasspack, they actually restrict ...

dealer manual wrong

Crank was undersize on original bearings (WAYYYY to much clearance), cam was toasted, 3 lifters self destructed when I dropped them 2 feet into a trashcan, 7 lifters were worn out and fell out of the bores, and the block deck was cracked. Car ran ok but had a little power loss, just enough to make g...

dealer manual wrong

Just took out the 2.8 from my 88 gt and the manual (chiltons and dealer) were both wrong, there is another braket not listed.  Plus the bolts were hard to get out on some items due to the car has never had the engine disassembled (even the exhaust manifolds have never been off.  Only riune...

Coolant System Problem

The rear brakes issue could be caused by an egg-shaped drum or by the shoes hanging up on the backing plate.  The shoes require some lubriplate to work right.  I would put money on the drum, an out of round drum will do this and then stop when hot many a time.  If you have to wait a l...

Oil Pressure

The official Tech Service Bulletin on oil pressure states that 6 psi is ok.  The info also explains tha it may be at 6 but have the gauge at redline.   As far as oil pressure goes in general you want it at least this 6 but not too high either... If you put in a new pump do not go for a hig...

Blinker Problem

THe two most likely culprits are the relay (where Jeff P said it is) or the switch itself.  The switch may work mechanically but not electrically.  There are a couple of copper wipers that have to hit a metal pad to turn on the blinkers.  If the switch is moving and cancelling ok then...

89' 2.8 Won't Start, No Power

The click is interesting... sounds like maybe a circuit breaker is kicking.  If the starter is drawing all the power it could cause the breakers to kick, and some cars use breakers for the power options but not the dome light.  Probably is the solenoid or starter motor has a short and the ...

problem with no starter

Check the wiring and then pull the starter and have a parts store check it.  With a worn out starter it can take a lot of juice to get it moving.  Also check for proper starter clearance on the flywheel ring gear, if it is too tight the starter needs lots of juice to get it going around.

Coolant boiling over

Check out the overflow hose to the coolant reservoir by pulling it off the filler neck and blowing thru it.  A restricted overflow hose can cause the expanded fluid to blow out the cap.  Bleed the system by running the engine at 1500 rpm or a little less and adding coolant as it needs. &nb...

89 GTU Cluth disengage issue

Couple of thoughts... The fork could be off the pivot, just check it out and make sure it is all ok.  Second the bearing could be engaged at the wrong point.   Also, some of these systems do not respond to bench bleeding or traditional "pump the pedal" bleeding but only to pressure bleedin...

Dead Speedo and now flashing SES

Could be seperate issues, or you have an electrical problem, not enough juice.  Check the alternator out and see if it is putting out enough.  Run an ABS diagnostics for a code and check the pulse on the speedo (a multimeter with a hertz function will do it).  It is possible they are ...
