Re: Z26 lawn ornament

It's Cayenne Red! Worth saving if it's not rusted to crap!

Re: Not your average Z26... a resurrection

That's a good idea - I'll look into reinforcing the beam in the area where the bushing mount goes - should be able to gusset it some and possibly reinforce it internally before boxing it in. We were trying to mimic the original Addco mounting setup, but I'm not a fan of the all-thread personally. Bu...

Never heard about using a J axle beam. Sounds like a good solution.

I can weld thicker stuff no problem - it's the thin crap that I struggle with - need more practice.

Re: Not your average Z26... a resurrection

One thing to note - if you look at the swaybar mounts that are hung over the axle, you'll see the spacers placed under the hardware - those are there temporarily as I'm going to box in the triangular section of the beam for more rigidity. This will reduce beam twist and also make up for the lack of ...

Re: Not your average Z26... a resurrection

Update: I'll get pics later but had a very productive weekend! Brian and Shane (both were in town for different reasons) lent a hand and helped get both of my "projects" in the garage to a point where things will happen much faster now. Got the trans reassembled with the Torsen LSD and the...

Re: so.. I may get my old GTZ back

It can be done, just need the parts. Wiring harness from a V6 - what year depends on how far you want to go tuning wise - 93 and older you can get a chip to burn, 96 you can tune with HP Tuners or DHP. Bellhousing as mentioned. Would have to look into engine mounting - not sure how the Quads were se...

Re: Project 91 "SS" 3400/5spd

Since you are using bolts now instead of the stock "pins" on the shifter linkage on the trans, I assume there are no bushings in the cable ends like factory had?

What did you use to quiet squeaks from the dash?

I had to ask because my car was bought from the original owner, is a 95, and is Cayenne Red Metallic... :)

Re: What is an average cost for a Z26?

Depends on what you’re looking for.

Rust free? Well maintained? Clean body/paint?

Typically clean cars go for around $2-3k.

You didn’t happen to live in Michigan when you ordered yours did you?

Re: Indy pace car graphics and repair manual

How much for the graphics? Is it the full set or just the door decals and the dash plaque?

Re: Not your average Z26... a resurrection

New mounts (92-96 style) welded in - not my best work but not terrible considering the engine was still in the car. I’ll get pictures once everything is cleaned up and painted.

Started pulling apart the Cavalier trans to get the guts out for a case swap.

Torsen love!

Re: Not your average Z26... a resurrection

You and me both... I bought a 92 3.1 Beretta trans thinking it was an internal slave, sight unseen (it had 45K on it and was cheapish). When I got it, I got the trans pictured above with the green circle, and it had one of the 92+ mounts on it still. This tells me that 93 was the only year V6 Berett...

Re: Not your average Z26... a resurrection

It’s the diff and upgraded internals - supposedly strengthened to handle 900 HP.

I want to use the Cav trans as it uses the internal slave.

Re: Not your average Z26... a resurrection

It’s always something... So I got the transmission out of the Alero and looked it over closely; hmm, how are those 5spd mounts supposed to bolt to it? The trans is from a 94 Cavalier, which doesn’t have provisions for the front 5spd mount in the casting. The rear mount bosses are there, but only 1 o...
