Re: Cam bearings removal & installation

Today i installed the two inner cam bearings with my $150 tool. But the two outer bearings are the hardest to install. My tool set includes a nylon cone which is helpful in centering the long aluminum tool while I drive it in with my ten pound plastic hammer. This is possible only for the two inner ...

How big of a difference exists between a Beretta 1990 3.1 and a 1992 3.1?

Re: Cam bearings removal & installation

Thanks very much, that makes sense. The service manual has only a very brief description of the procedure.

But how do I crush the bearing? with a hammer and long chisel?

Also I changed my mind and decided to do this cam bearing replacement. The tool cost $150, and I wasn't sure.

Cam bearings removal & installation

Today I drove out the first cam bearing. But the bearing has no way out, that is, I am trying to extract it. The design of the engine won't allow it, since there no opening large enough to extract the bearing. Now I''m also wondering how the heck I'm going to install the two middle cam bearings. 199...

Belleville washers

The four center bolts on the intake manifold include Belleville washers.

What is their purpose? There are two per bolt.

Fuel injectors in flood mode?

Once I was inspecting a '96 Cavalier with a no-start condition, with the fuel rail and injectors removed from the engine. When I turned the ignition switch to "run" position, the injectors began squirting fuel, and continued until I turned the key back to "off" position. Good thi...

Re: Fuel return line

Thanks, ifixalot. This forum is like a bees' hive. The fuel pump is inside the fuel tank and is submerged in fuel to prevent overheating. This is why people who habitually drive with the gauge indicating empty often need fuel pump replacements. Keep it at least a quarter full! That said, i suppose t...

Fuel return line

Why is the fuel return line necessary? Seems this would cause fuel pressure in the fuel rail to fall and cause
the injectors to stop operating.
