Re: Back to Berettas after 15+ years

My A/C quit back in the summer and I noticed that the fan wasn't kicking on when I engaged the A/C. I was sitting in the car with the scan tool watching the coolant temp and fan commands, and I noticed some steam coming from up front. What luck! of all the places the radiator tank could split wide o...

Re: Budget LS swap 6spd RWD Z26 project.

Yeah, it's a little sketchy...but you can lift an engine from the bottom with a cherry picker. https://youtu.be/xuwgxGyi-Lc I had to cut the engine mounts out and change them to make the steering rack fit better. After butchering the stock subframe, I welded some structure back in and made my rack ...

Re: Back to Berettas after 15+ years

IMG_20220617_085648592a.jpg I found this at the local PaP, has a nice "Doral" tire (I thought those were cigarettes) with a '19 date code. $21.50 I think it was after I returned my bent rim as a core. I lost a decent tire on the core, but having it removed wouldve cost as much as the core...

Re: Back to Berettas after 15+ years

IMAG0401.jpg Since this picture was taken, I have added another Muncie/Getrag 282 5-speed Beretta transaxle, two Nissan 300ZX 5-speeds, a Mopar NV2500 5-speed, and one of the two 'spare' BW T-5 "World Class" SBC 5-speeds (the one which has a Hurst short-throw shifter setup), PLUS my 'spar...

Re: Back to Berettas after 15+ years

I am still resisting LS engines...because LS's are still just a little harder to find in good shape for a good price around here So I shouldn't mention the one I just picked up for $200 with a trans? :P  https://i.imgur.com/IppXm4w.jpg Damn that's a screamin' deal! My FIL has a 64 Impala SS th...

Re: Back to Berettas after 15+ years

Oh that sucks man! That was one of my fears with the Speedy Lite-5 17s that I had on my last car since 2004. LOVED those things and was always a little worried one would get ruined and screw up the set. They lasted through 2 different Berettas in 2 different colors and I had planned to use them RWD...

Re: Back to Berettas after 15+ years

I'm learning that my new freeway commute is pretty tough on my cars! I was in the GT, looking over my shoulder to see that I was clear to change lanes, and BOOM biggest pothole of my life. Instantly a major vibration so I thought I was getting a flat. Once I was off the highway I looked out the fron...

Re: Back to Berettas after 15+ years

I am still resisting LS engines, mostly because I haven't finished all my wicked plans with older SBC builds that I still have sitting around here yet, and because LS's are still just a little harder to find in good shape for a good price around here, but they are definitely the way to go if starti...

Re: Back to Berettas after 15+ years

The car was getting a little raspy, so finally time for a new muffler. Still was rockin' the OEM (!) I just ordered stock replacement stuff from RA, I figured the ol' 3.1 is wheezing away at 180K, and any old muffler will be enough breathing for it. The pipe is near mint. Someone deleted the cat yea...

Re: Back to Berettas after 15+ years

I'm not surprised actually -I have yet to replace ball-joints on ANY of my Berettas, and the only inner tie-rod I've had to replace is the one I mentioned that the bushing completely disintegrated on for some reason. Poly, er, um, not really a fan. It is supposed to last longer, but I've seen plent...

Re: Back to Berettas after 15+ years

It ended up being a bad tire. I'm too frugal for my own good sometimes. A while back I got something that looked like a hypodermic needle in the edge of the tread near the sidewall. 2 local shops wouldn't fix it. Sooo I put fix a flat in it. Not doing that again. On the 3rd test drive rotating my do...

Re: Back to Berettas after 15+ years

I decided it was time to investigate the extreme vibration/shuddering that I've been experiencing which hasn't gotten any better.. I recently changed jobs so now my commute is all highway. This issue is worse at 70mph or so. Before I was pretty much country driving so it wasn't a big deal Anyhow fir...

Re: Back to Berettas after 15+ years

 Yep, gotta watch out for those "A" holes. -Sorry, it is late, I had to do it! Can't see much of it from that shot, but what I CAN see looks like a really clean little MG! Must feel pretty good to see so much effort turn into so much progress towards the end and finall...
