Re: Not your average Z26... a resurrection

I have a decent idea with the piping - did a rough mockup last weekend. Waiting on couplers to finalize it though. The cold side feed to the intercooler is going to feed through the triangular support bracket behind where the washer fluid tank used to be (I removed it years ago during my first attem...

Re: Not your average Z26... a resurrection

Got quite a bit done during this past weekend, but still have lots more to go. Finished welding the plates for the rear sway bar to attach to the rear axle, painted it up, and got it installed. Installed the Neon rear disk setup but realized I didn’t have the lever the parking brake cable attaches t...

Re: Clunking around passenger side when making right turn

Sounds like the control arm bushings have failed. Check those as they were known to pop out of the control arm.

Re: Not your average Z26... a resurrection

Geooooooooooooooff wayyyy too early for car porn :D Please forgive me I have not read this thread in forever, are you going to larger wheels? or you wanted to run more spring rate? Turbo is looking like it belongs there for sure... Nope, not going larger than what I have. I wanted complete adjustab...

Re: Not your average Z26... a resurrection

Lots to update. Reinforced the area under where the rear sway bar mounts will be: https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180520/4a908f8d76e550f196f16dc9c33859b0.jpg Then boxed both areas in completely: https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180520/3621a71c19b5b9c02736c96662ceb768.jpg Then boxed in the rest ...

Re: Hmmmmnnnn...

There is a guy that is running a turbo LS4 in a W-body Monte Carlo, using a built 4T65E-HD trans. Why isn't that viable?

It's Cayenne Red! Worth saving if it's not rusted to crap!

Re: Not your average Z26... a resurrection

That's a good idea - I'll look into reinforcing the beam in the area where the bushing mount goes - should be able to gusset it some and possibly reinforce it internally before boxing it in. We were trying to mimic the original Addco mounting setup, but I'm not a fan of the all-thread personally. Bu...

Never heard about using a J axle beam. Sounds like a good solution.

I can weld thicker stuff no problem - it's the thin crap that I struggle with - need more practice.

Re: Not your average Z26... a resurrection

One thing to note - if you look at the swaybar mounts that are hung over the axle, you'll see the spacers placed under the hardware - those are there temporarily as I'm going to box in the triangular section of the beam for more rigidity. This will reduce beam twist and also make up for the lack of ...

Re: Not your average Z26... a resurrection

Update: I'll get pics later but had a very productive weekend! Brian and Shane (both were in town for different reasons) lent a hand and helped get both of my "projects" in the garage to a point where things will happen much faster now. Got the trans reassembled with the Torsen LSD and the...
