If you are looking at the front of the car, it will be down in front of the cooling fan, next to the oil filter (on 3100 engines).

My 3400 problems... going on for over a year...

Ok, this is going to be long winded, so consider yourself forewarned. Engine: 3400 from 99 Grand Am, 22K miles, sat outside under a tarp for probably about 3-4 years before I got it. I tore it down to the block (leaving the lower end alone) and replaced every gasket/seal/o-ring possible before putti...

And all sizes of metric sockets/wrenches. I prefer the ratcheting wrenches by Craftsman.

Shift Cables

You should be able to use it on both, I don't see why not. Affixing it to the cable might be tricky, but I'm sure you could figure something out.

I know you can order it through Summit/Jegs... or you could drive down to Lane Automotive... I think it's off 94 towards St. Joe. They might have it.

Try some header wrap around the area that is affected, and use some header wrap in the same area on the exhaust that is touching/affecting the shift cables.

GM Parts dealer? codes?

Ok, here's the part numbers for the two cables, I can't tell you which one is which (front to back or side to side). These were ordered for an 89 GT 2.8L 5spd manual (Getrag) transmission. 10186821 CABLE ASM $141.22 10186818 CABLE ASM $188.85 Those were the list prices, not what I paid for them, jus...

GM Parts dealer? codes?

I'm not sure if all the shift cables are the same from Quad Getrag to V6 Getrag, but I should have the P/N for the cables I bought from the dealer around here someplace. I'll see if I can dig them up tomorrow.

GM Parts dealer? codes?

Came to WMU from CMU? Man, talk about rivalry shifting! The reason you are breaking cables is probably due to the fact that you are purchasing non-GM ones.
