Re: rear quarter panel
.... That's a lot of body filler. My '89 was like that from a repair way before I got it. That was my thought too. Now we know why it is rusted-out so bad. These cars had a galvanized coating on the sheet-metal from the factory, to slow-down rusting. When a body-tech has to fix a big dent, they ten...

Re: GM Transmission mount provision for upper PS motor mount
My GTU's 3800 is hard-mounted into the car -no Poly, no gel, no liquid, etc. Needless to say, I have near zero engine movement inside the bay. The 3800 S-II I have utilizes a counter-balance shaft in the lifter-valley underneath the intake manifold, and despite the displacement increase, that 90-deg...

Re: 88 2.8 Corsica rough idle hesitation pinging
...Unless it is just low on fluid from losing it. If the fluid level is low, it will whine, grumble, and vibrate through the steering wheel. Very possibly you 'just' have a leaking pressure-hose and consequently a low fluid level causing this. I did the hose on my '89 GTU last year, and my '90 Yello...

Re: While im doing this.....
I have one too, '03 maybe? I don't remember, but it DOES have the newer EGR version, I also still have the '99 from the block I put into my '90 turbo. Both of mine should still have the TBs on them too. PM me if you are interested, but with shipping, a local yard will likely be cheaper for you.

Re: 88 2.8 Corsica rough idle hesitation pinging
It is really pretty straight-forward, relative to any other top-end replacement. You might have some issues because you are starting off with the 2.8's smaller cylinders, but use 2.8 gaskets :pardon: -I don't think the 3400 valves are so big that they will interfere with the cylinder walls... Other ...

Re: While im doing this.....
Impossible to tell where I am sitting of course, but it isn't uncommon for the P/S pump and even the alternator to make sounds similar to what you are describing. I'm not sure how much of a stretch it is to hope for a problem there... Did the shop put in different accessories, or were they able to r...

Re: 88 2.8 Corsica rough idle hesitation pinging
Not to mention the extreme PITA of having to deal with the front mount bracket. Of course, now you can just buy them from someone for ~$150 (or less  , but I am tired of offering that). If you do decide on going for the 3X00 top-end swap onto your car, there are a few things I would recommend....

Re: problem with power and cooling fan
Yes, I too still think it is a problem with the housing. They tend to short-out internally, especially while the engine is under load (acceleration) because of the increased spark resistance inside the cylinders. You may not be able to see any sparks if it is shorting out internally, but two of your...

Re: 88 2.8 Corsica rough idle hesitation pinging
Wow, that is a really clean interior, especially for being as old as it is. I like the two-tone too, even if the clear is coming off. Honestly, though yes it is dirty, that isn't a bad looking car at all. Okay then... When you say it still has the MAF, do you mean that it hasn't had the update that ...

Re: problem with power and cooling fan
Replace this: Quad IDI housing.jpg These go bad, and cause problems you describe. Or convert to spark-plug wires and regular GM two-post coils... GM Coiljpg.jpg Easy to do, just adapt original wiring harness to coils and make a coil mounting-pad. I've done it to two or three cars, no problems since....

Re: 88 2.8 Corsica rough idle hesitation pinging
Start with the basics: Do a tune-up, plugs, wires, PCV valve. Consider a good-grade injector cleaner, like BG-44K. Check fuel pressure cold and hot, pull the vacuum line off of the FPR and look to see if it is leaking internally (rare on a 2.8, BTW). Consider a new O2 sensor -that operates once it h...

Re: Turns off in drive/reverse/1/2
:pardon: Facts are what they are. Under neutral throttle, there really isn't that much RPM difference, it is under acceleration that the difference is dramatic. But I hear what you are saying, a real OD is a solid plus, and three forward gears is at least two too little for this era car. Personally,...

Re: Turns off in drive/reverse/1/2
i just got the dealer to install a new tcc into my 1989 beretta and it really only does reduce the RPM by about 100 revs on the highway. Still with that 2.8 i only get about 17-20MPG That sounds right. stupid TCC idea. No, not really. Okay, so here it is. It is really difficult to get a decent read...

Re: Turns off in drive/reverse/1/2
:o Next time I get my Yellow Indy up to speed, I'll double-check exact numbers, but I think I'm dropping that many RPMs at 40 MPH... I'm also getting pretty consistent 28+ MPG, mixed city/highway mostly back-roads driving. I do have a 3.1 of course, and it is in really good tune, but it shouldn't be...
