Yes it can be done, just about any push button T handle with the right diameter hole will work.  Just get one off nearly any GM auto with a floor shifter that has a T handle.

I got mine out of an 85 Chevy Celebrity.

Almost any GM will work.
I have a leather T-handle from an Alero. Very nice.

I've wanted a leather one from a trans-am for a while. Never got one though.
I'm so used to shifting mine now though I think a T-shifter would be harder for me.
But I'd like it when going from park to drive. But when downshifting to 1st I like the way you can grip the whole thing in your hand like a manual knob.

(note downshifting an auto you have to know what your doing, like match the rpms, etc and only do it when you need to. not for daily driving. I use it when I know I'll have to punch it and I don't want to wait for it to downshift when I hit the gas.)

But anyways yes I think a T shifter would be cool. Problem is finding one in a junkyard close by..

I've got one from an alero if you'd be interested.  Just cover shipping.

I can get a picture if you'd like.
