carpet

Post by Decipha »

I'm in the process of restoring the entire inside of my
beretta, I know they sell the prefab carpet but i'd rather
mold the carpet myself.  I was thinking about going with
the indoor outdoor carpet people use for speaker boxes
would this suffice?  Or would i be better off going with
a different type of carpet?  Also the padding underneath
the carpet, do i have to replace it?  Is it there for any
other reason other than to absorb road noises and
such?  I'm going to sound deaden the entire floor board
so if i don't need the padding i won't bother with it.
My currect padding is in terrible condition.  If i were to
need it does any one know where i may be able to get
some?... sorry for the long post i'm just new to all this

You should R&R the padding because that is what takes in most of the bulkhead water leaks, etc and tends to make that nasty mold smell.  You should be able to buy the under carpet pad in a roll from GM or a like.  I would not use sound deading in place of it, because once you stick that down, goodluck shifting it around to set it right.  IMHO, just by teh premolded carpet.  It'll make life easier unless you plan on some sort of custom reworking.

I look for the undercarpet pad, i have to use sound deadening as i will have
a very loud soundsystem and as of right now everything rattles, even the
floorboard.  I've used sound deadening alot and im pretty good with it, i don't
think i'll have any trouble getting it set right, thanks for the heads up though.
I would go with the premolded carpet, but im going to be fabing alot of
custom pieces, and i would like to have all the carpet the exact same color.

I'm going to just try to recarpet it all myself and see what i can do, i'll be sure
to post pics once i'm done.. of couse i'll have Before and After pics.. thanks
