is it true that you can only use the 91 and 92 HVAC controls?

You can use the 93+, but that'll require some modifications involving wire splicing and what not. The 91 and 92 HVAC controls, at least the electronic connections [not the vacuum lines], are plug and play with the connectors in the 1990 and below Berettas.

For anyone who (probally everyone) is having problems with the hvac vacume lines, I have found another approach to it, but it's not perfect.  Either way you seem to loose one or more settings trying to put the 91-92 hvac controls in.  Now the 91 and 92 Hvac controls will actually have the same mounts as the 88-90 hvac controls except the mode selector switch is a bit different.  Instead of trying to do the guessing game with the hoses, I modified the 91 hvac panel and actaully mounted the mode selector switch from my 90 onto the 91 hvac panel.  It did require fabricating a new mounting bracket out of fiberglass (I'm sure there are other materials that can be used)  but it was easy and took about 20 minutes of work and 12 hours to dry.  Now the part I said with it not being perfect comes down to this.. because the 90's mode switch only had 5 hoses ( 91+ has 6) I have full function of my modes accept I dont get "blend" and all of the modes line up other than defrost, as there is an extra mode on the 91+ hvac panel.  So "blend" is actually my defroster and all the rest ( off, normal, max, bi lev, vent, heater, are all correct)  I'll take some pics if anyone is interested or actually understands what the heck im talking about lol.  Not very easy thing to try and describe.

For anyone who does put a newer steering column in also, there are some wires you must relocate in the harness for the turn signals, and brake's, untill I did this my turn signal would turn on when I stepped on the brake and the blinkers didnt work correctly.  It's simple and all you have to do is match up color for color in the correct location on the very long harness clip that's on the steering column.

Why would you need to change them?  They are the same in my 90 as there were in the 94 quad Z26 that I used for parts.

I also wasnt aware of any change in the HVAC controls from 92 to 93.  All 91+ hvac units that I've seen have been identical.

Pimpazzberetta69 Im not sure if its the same on your 90 but I also had to splice the turn signal connector for the new column.  Its a 4 wire square plug if I remember correctly.

Im pulling my dash again sometime soon so I'll try to get pictures for everyone of the finished product this time.  I want to relocate my ALDL connector to the passengers side of the car.

To avoid the problem with the HVAC controls, couldnt you just swap the whole heater as well. I mean, with the dash and everything already out, wouldn't you be halfway there??

p.s. I've never taken the heater out of a Beretta before so I dont knowhow hard it is but i know form other cars that once the dash is out the way, the rest is easy.

I thought about it after I was already into the swap, but at the time I wasnt aware that the heater boxes behind the dash were different and I didnt have the parts readily available.  I did my swap in a storage yard in -30 degree celsius weather so I just wanted to get it done as quickly as possible  If I ever remove my dash again, I may look into using the black heater box from the 91+ car so I can make use of the 91+ floor vents and blend option.  Until then, Im happy.
Like I said this isnt a complete guide, just a reference point based on my experiences when I did it.  I didnt have much to go on so hopefully you guys can do a better job than I did.

It's more than just a heater box.. on the 91+ there is actually a whole extra diaphram.  I also found out to late about the idea of trying to remove EVERY part of the hvac from a 91+.  I'm content with having all setting aside from the "mix".  My A/c does not currently work, and the car does not get used in winter, so not a whole lot of use for the hvac as it is.

You make it sound so tough   It's a direct swap.  Switch the HVAC box/diaphrams over and you're good.  Simple if your A/C is already discharged (evacuated?).
