7mm is only 1/4 of an inch... If you have a 225 tire that should stick out 10mm wider and your offset is 3mm further IN not out then your end result is 7mm wider than stock, but the wheel itself will appear further inset. Positive mm offset means the tire center line is set further in the well.

35mm offset for the front with a 225 tire is wicked sweet looking, but you would need a 42 or 45 in the rear to tuck with the neon brakes back there.

My old 35mm offset rims. The tire was equal to the fender flare

And I had to roll the rear with stock brakes because it would rub.

It would be 7mm with stock brakes, yes. But I have the neon swap which pushes it further out. So my setup compared to an all-stock 16x7 w/ 205 it is still a 1/2" or so out. And when you figure in the thickness of the caliper bracket as well as the difference in thickness between the drum mounting surface and the rotor, I'll bet it's actually closer to 3/4" for me and 1" for you with a 40mm wheel.

Rims-n-tires.com or something like that had a sweet calculator online that the simplified now and doesn't work as well. It was really good for figuring out fitment.
