2.2 trans to 2.3 engine

Post by Guest »

If my GTZ runs good (after I get a harness to see if it even runs) I would like to take the 5spd out and put an auto in. Will the auto in my '92 2.2 bolt up? if not what motors have the same bolt pattern?

TIA
-Mike

Yeeeeah... had a feeling i'd get some negative feedback but if this Z doesnt run when I get an engine harness, its part'n time. 'dont waste a GTZ' I pulled this car from the back of someone's yard where it has been sitting for 4 years buried in grass taller than me, infested with mice, snakes and ants. I'm atleast tring to get it to run.

So can someone please give me a straight answer?

No it won't bolt up.  You need a trans from a Quad4.

Thank you. Had a feeling that was the case. Probably won't change the 5spd but I probably wont keep the Z either. Driving a manual back and forth to work every day will get old with me. But again thats even if this car runs.

A trans from a 3.1 manual will bolt up.  However, the axles will have to be swapped out as well.

The bellhousing is different I think.

Read Rex's statement.  The trans will NOT bolt up, you need a trans from a 2.3l quad.  That and the later 2.4l have a unique bell housing bolt pattern which has NOTHING to do with axles.
