5-speeds

Post by rjc333 »

So I threw this question out there under someone else's thread, but got no response.  Figured I'd try it here instead.  In an attempt to find a manual transmission to mate to my 3.1 to replace the autobox, I came across a decent deal on a '95 2.2 base with a 5 speed.  I pretty much need a whole donor car to ensure I have the right length axles and ECU and whatnot, otherwise finding just a transmission would be easy.  What I need to know is, are any of the other 5-speeds offered in Berettas (2.2, Quad) able to be mated up to a 3.1?

I've also come across a lot more 3.1/manual Sunbirds and Cavaliers, but nobody has been able to give me an answer whether or not the axles will work or not.  Any thoughts?

the 2.2 had the izuzu, which won't work...I don't think a quad will either. I think any j-body set-up should work, not 100 sure though. sorry.

Quad will work, but you have to swap bellhousings.  Just find a getrag.  You'll blow the Isuzu if you drive hard.

Ok, so the Getrag is the one mated to the 3.1's I assume.  Shouldn't be too tough to find there.  But will the axles and the rest of the necessary hardware from a J-body match up?

Ok, so I got in contact with Mantapart and they said the axles from a 3.1 equipped J-body will work.  Also said that the transmission from a 2.2 or 3.1 would work in a swap.  Apparently, the Quad uses a different bellhousing so it's transmission is not compatible in a swap.
