Grabbing a 1996 OBDII computer out of the yard... yes or no?

Post by DanteGTZ »

Is it worth grabbing a 1996 OBDII Z26 wiring harness from a junkyard car? Thinking of grabbing one and saving it for a future project that might require an OBDII 60*V6. Just curious if it'd be worth the effort to grab it now out of this 96 Z26? ....and would I need the entire harness or just some section?

They usually only sell for around $100, the main reason they come up for sale is because someone is parting out their own car or because someone went and got one for themselves but then changed the project they were working on.

I'm just asking if I should grab one for myself? I'm not looking to sell it, just keep one for a possible future project. Didn't know if grabbing a 1996 harness out of a Beretta would help or if anyone 3x00 OBDII harness would work...

For a 3400 or 3500 swap it would be helpful. Best to avoid the computer though if you plan to tune. Or was that cracked not that long ago? Don't remember because I have a 95.

A venture, monte, or Montana might be better for the obd 2 and pcm.

97 3400 ecu is where it's at and honestly I bought two on ebay once for$30 so I doubt a 96 will sell for 100 anytime soon.

When I said 100 I was speaking of the harness and ECU as he said, not just the ECU.
