Intermediate shaft/jack-shaft

Post by themixer »

Believe my jack shaft might be starting to get sloppy. Anyone ever repair one of these? I do have a spare with definite bearing problems. Will be calling the dealer Monday to see if I can get some part numbers on these. The current one I have is the stamped steel one not the earlier aluminium tube one.

Something interesting that came up on a car-part search along with older jbodys is a 1993 Axle Shaft from a Asuna Sunfire. I did actually have one of these in my hands but sent it back to the junkyard as it didn't look like the right part for my application. This was during my first auto to manual swap a number of years ago, and was unable to test fit it. I did take a picture of it before sending it back, wondering now if I should get it back as it looks to be of better design.

The Sunfire would most likely have had the Isuzu trans.

There is one of those bearings on eBay right now.

I think I did a similar one on Roberts. But I'm not sure what application the shaft was from.

this is interesting is there any long axle instead of a jack shaft that I could use? If I didn't care about the torque steer?

That again looks different than what I have, looks much more heavy duty.

Looks similar to the sunfire one you posted... Not sure if the bearings are the same tho. Oh wait just read that you returned it...

But yeah this is way tougher than anything that came stock on the Beretta.

Now what makes this one so much better than the Beretta one? I've never heard of a different jackshaft.

I've heard there is another version out there that is a stamped steel bracket but I'm not sure if the tube is different than this aluminum one.

The beretta one pictured was an 89... I don't know if they changed it.

I think that aluminum-cased intermediate shaft which has a stamped aluminum bracket to the block was for 87-89.

Anyone have any pictures of the 90-93 shaft. At least I'm guessing at the year range.
