95 Z26 Transmission

Post by A66ott »

I recently asked about changing over to a manual in my car. I haven't found anything for that so I've been trying to at least keep her running but I'm having trouble with this damn transmission. It has a 3 speed in it i do believe ( think the pan said 4t60 it was weird shaped like a tetris block lol). I did a trans filter and gasket hoping to get it to stop leaking fluid and start shifting into high more often. The bitch is still leaking. I was wondering if anybody is good at rebuilding these trans and how much they would do it for or if they had a spare they would sell me since the only local yard around me only had early models. Im hoping to buy a 96 Z26 once i sell my rustang but i was gonna do the minor work to it and park the one that needs a trans. Any suggestions or help would be awesome as i apparently have the worst luck with trans. I would even be willing to learn how to rebuild it but i don't have a garage to do it in.

I have a 4t60E from a 96. I'm not sure it will work for 1995?
E means electronic. Yours may be throttle body controlled.
But I'm also pretty far from you being in the 60015 area code.
Maybe your leaks from the dipstick tube? I think there is an o-ring
there.

94-96 4t60e's are interchangeable... Only difference is a small change in ratio that does not effect the ECU or shifting.

My understanding is the OBD II 4T60E ('96) is a 1 yr only trans for the L body Corsica/Beretta, at least according to Hollander. I'd think '94 & '95 would be identical though

There is nothing about the trans that will prevent you from using a 96 transmission in a 95.

Drivers side pan on my Grand Prix 4T60e did not work with my Beretta's mount. The old side pan(or whatever it's called) had to be used. Got it for the better FDR.

That is correct because the Beretta has a structural side cover and has a mount on it, the W-bodies did not have that.
