How does one remove headrest from Z seats?

Can anyone tell me how to remove the headrests from a set of Z seats?
IIRC, the cleaner way to do it is to open up the seat back, there is a retainer holding the headrest slides into the seat. It has been a few years, but as I recall, I opted to leave the retainer out of the seats from my Yellow Indy when I put them back together -I wanted to be able to remove them again. I don't remember what the retainer even looked like though.
