Size of radio in 96 Z26

Post by Cam2363 »

Is the radio a double din or a single din? Also, would anyone be able to get me the height, width, and length of it?

Thanks!

I'll be pulling the OE radio from my '95 Z in the not-too-distant future to hopefully replace with a double-DIN Pioneer, I am just not sure that thing will fit... It seems like the GM radios then were a 1.5-DIN...
If you still need the dimensions by then, I'll measure mine out for you.

Thanks! I saw it was 1.5 din too. The Beretta has 64k on it and is completely stock  so I don't think I'm gonna cut it all up to fit a 2din in there.
I appreciate that, if you could get the measurements that would be awesome, In my old 89 Deville, the site said the new 2din was compatible... it was 4in longer and a bit thicker, so I had to do a lot of cutting and in the end, there was no way to mount it besides the friction of forcing it in, not clean, but it worked.

I would still like the measurements, so whenever you get around to it please let me know. Thanks!

I haven't pulled the factory radio from my 2nd Z-26 yet, but I did check fitment of a double-DIN Pioneer in my first '95 Z today (the single DIN Pioneer in that car is super easy to remove, so I just took a moment to check it out). Basically, the trim around the radio and HVAC (heater) controls will have to be trimmed by ~1/4-3/8 inch (6-10mm). The pocket for the radio itself will also need to be trimmed slightly to accommodate the slightly taller stereo, but length looks very close on, and width of course is no issue. I will be installing the double DIN Pioneer in the second Z anyway, I just won't feel quite as happy about it... and when I do swap it over, I will still measure the original stereo for you.
