1990 Yellow Indy 5 speed... needs a REALLY good bath.

Post by Derrick »

Guys, really just a feeler because I can't stand the idea of sending it off to the crusher. I scoured the earth for this damned car. My best friend had a new one when we were in high school, and it took me until 2008 to find one. I paid the sun, moon and the stars for it since I had to have it... but here's the story.

Car has about 179k on it, but it's not missing any GFX, or anything else. No tears in the upholstery, ran great when I parked it a year and a half ago. (Blew a heater line on my way home from work, and I never messed with it.) New front pads and rotors, and a clutch. Trans didn't grind or anything, but it was always a little notchy and we were convinced it was the clutch not releasing. It's still notchy.

Anyway, I parked it in my garage. Said garage leaks. Sunroof on Beretta apparently also leaks. Not much, but enough. No water damage inside, but... mold. It's all over the door panels, the seats, the dash, etc. Battery is dead, but I'm quite sure with a new one it would start and run. Sorry about the pictures, it's really the best I can do at the moment with all this stuff in the garage. It's all coming out so I can have the garage rebuilt, but anyway... It's had paint work, not bad... small rust spot on front LH fender. Needs new tires. I know it really isn't worth a fortune, but I'd rather see it go to someone who would appreciate it, won't destroy it or give it to their rotten little dope smoking, bastard kid to smash into a telephone pole. :)

Basics:
5 speed manual
Sunroof
Everything works
Cold A/C
Hot heat (When there's antifreeze in it LOL)
Interior looks like a year old loaf of bread
Digital cluster
Decent Pioneer CD player w/ remote (used to work great, but maybe has fuzzy critters in it now)
Typical leaky distributor o-ring (Put a quart in every 1000 miles)
Taillights and filler panel are all one piece, but have some cracks and crazing; you'll probably want a nicer set.
Big and small door stickers, but missing the "Indy 500" fender emblem
Dash is deformed, but I don't think there's any cracks in it
Other than the unwanted penicillin cultures, it's in fairly comparable shape to the other yellow one on here for sale.

Let me know what you'd be willing to pay for it, and promise to give it a good home.... it might just be yours. I'd like to say I'd clean it up and get it back to where it was; but I know it'll just sit there and get worse. Kinda breaks my heart. Might even trade. Never know, just ask.

Wow. You let it go for something simple like a heater core line... Ouch. Not trying to be mean, but it just sounds bad that it happened like that.

If I was in the position to start the build I eventually want to do, I would buy this as a donor for it. But sadly, that won't happen for now, as I have no place to put it, and no time to mess with it at the moment, nor the funds to do it. Good luck with the sale though.

Don't remind me. You'd really laugh if you knew what I did for a living. I have a lot of cars, and when that happened I just got promoted to a district manager at work. With all the traveling and hauling people around, I couldn't daily drive the thing anymore. I never touched it after that mainly because I always had something else going on.

If you can please post more/better pics of the car in the day light. Those pics are not good :) and so it seems to make that interior worse then it is? If it is that bad, that had to come from more then just a leaky sunroof unless that puppy was pouring in the elements. More pics in the daylight of the inside/outside would be awesome.
I am just down I-71 past Kings Island. If no one buys it and you are ganna just junk it please drop me a PM here, I would be willing to chat about it.
I already have one, and if you read about it here you would see that it made it to a good home.

I don't know how to politely say that the interior of this car is well... just asking for the whole thing to go to the crusher. That is something that you would have to be crazy to mess with. Like removing the asbestos from an apartment... The work this car needs will be MAJOR.

This is EXACTLY how the interior looked in my 94 Quad Z26 when I bought it! My seats are replaced, (but didn't have to be). I replaced my headliner (it was sagging completely anyway despite the mold)! I also replaced my sun visors, but didn't have too. The rest of my interior is original. Trust me, this ALL cleans up easily if you know what you're doing and have a little ambition! My floors are rust free and my car sat like this for WAY longer than this one has. So I guess I must be crazy and like doing MAJOR work, but I thought it was all pretty damn simple... Oh well..........

Thats what I was thinking it can't be that bad to clean it up.

I will be honest, if I can get it for 300 I would bring a trailer and pick it up. I'm not trying to lowball or anything. I have a replacement set of seats in the garage already. Are the door jams/rockers solid?

As you know, I paid $100 over delivered scrap price (at the time) for mine. The seller will not get full scrap price if it's picked up instead of delivered! Depending on current scrap price and what the yard would charge for pickup, it's highly unlikely he'd got over $200 for it. If I bought it, I would clean everything, fix everything, and easily flip this car in a short period of time, (or keep it)! ;) Go for it Shawn! 4 is a good number of Beretta's! lol

I actually agree with Brent. I dunno what all the fuss is about. I would clean the dash with good medical chemicals. Then I'd bag the driver's seat, tow it to a detail shop in Gallup, pay the $200 to have it fully steam cleaned in and out (they pull the seats the whole 9 yards) and drive the fucker home and do whatever else it needed. You guys are making out like this car is in two pieces and needs to be welded back together. Get real.

I've bought cars in a LOT worse condition in other ways and fixed them up in short order. Hell, my Quasar was nasty as hell inside (and outside for that matter) when I got it and look at it now!
