wrecked 95 z26-$500 FIRM Located in St Louis

Post by Ozzwoman9 »

This is my car. Clean IL title in hand. I DO NOT want to part this out, and I do not want any rude comments about the price and cost to repair. The price is listed on here, this is as low as I will possibly go. I just want a quick turnaround and some cash/space in my driveway. I am under no obligation to get rid of this. I bought a new car and I just don't have the time to get started on a rebuild until maybe next year and I don't want it to sit any longer...we all know that isn't good for it. If you are interested (as a few have been), then REPLY to the messages I have sent you and you have read!!!

http://stlouis.craigslist.org/cto/4723246307.html

I've been attacked in other posts about the price and how I should cut my loses and basically give this car away, and I'm not going to do that. I will kindly provide a list (of which I pulled off of our local junk yard) of the prices they charge for some of the larger parts and share that cost before I start getting badgered about my price:
motor-$240
trans-$108
door-$61 each
trunk-$40
fender-$39
seat-$30 each (drive, pass, back)
windshield-$30 each
rear bumper-$40
====$739 This is junkyard costs and the cost for only the main parts, this does not even guarantee that the motor/trans even work! This car runs and drives, so you can see for yourself.

What does the CarFax say?

That is a compromised Title at best, whether you went through insurance or not.

To my eyes it's Salvage. (Rad support compromised, Air Bag deployed, over 15 years old.)

To put that thing back on the road, all systems working, is ~$3K with paint.

Hell the A/C would cost you a $1,000 to put back together.

There are vehicles on here cheaper than that.

Don't get all mad at folks just telling you the truth.

Good Luck!

 Wow, sorry to see this happened to your car... That was a really clean, nice example of the Zs.

FWIW, I think your asking price is very fair, especially considering the new parts you have put into it and the condition of the car other than the crash-damage, and SOME PEOPLE here should take Thumper's Mother's advice...

Good luck, I hope you weren't hurt in that...

As a Z26 owner I cannot fully express my sorrow for you. That was - and could be again - one beautiful car. Such a shame. Know that you have my sympathies and as I live in KC, if I could afford the cost - fixing it back up - I would jump all over this. Anyway... so sorry that this happened to you.

If anyone wants to run a carfax the VIN is 1G1LW15M5SY276670.
Although the accident may show up on there since there was a police report filed, the car has not been totaled. That's the only accident the car has even been in. I just don't have the time right now to fix it, but if it comes down to it I will in the end. I have receipts for about 95% of everything that has ever been done to the car since it was new off of the lot and parts I bought, most I ended up replacing myself.

I do have a core support ready to go in it that is included in the sale. I also have another shifter gear indicator piece laying somewhere if I can find it (nothing wrong with the one in it, just an extra).

And for the record, I did just get rid of a 96 red base model with a blown engine. I would have swapped parts over and made one good car, but like I said I just don't have the time. I needed wheels asap so I went and bought a new car.

Wont be totaled/salvaged unless you claim against insurance and the determine it's a loss... If you never claimed then they didn't pay out for repairs so they don't know enough to total it out. That's the thing that people sometimes don't understand about insurance, Don't make a claim if you don't want it totaled.. especially with our cars since they are worth so little Book wise.

If this is a good rust free shell then all you see can be fixed if you are dedicated to rebuild this... Just remember what "totaled" sometimes means... Cheap penny pinching insurance company doesn't feel it's worth fixing because someone says the car isn't worth much to begin with.

Exactly.

This ended up being a big cluster of a mess with this accident. I would not have reported the accident to insurance anyway. However, I was actually between changing insurance companies when this happened. I had written proof of this and quotes and what not. So I had given my agent the go ahead to switch companies the morning of the accident because I was having issues with the company I had. So in the end, I had proof I had insurance through two different companies, but when the report was ran neither of those companies came back with valid proof at the time of the accident. Basically my policy was cancelled and a new one activated that day with a different company and neither one would cover because of the timing. Because of my proof of all of the timing and events of everything I got my case dismissed. I only filed the report with the officer because I had several witnesses that reported that the other driver slammed on her brakes as soon as the light turned yellow, so I got off of that one as well. I was in the process of braking as it was and the roads were slick and wet, her car ended up on the other side of the intersection and the cop said there was no way that she could have stopped before the white line and ended up as far as she did. Basically she was considered to be through the intersection when she slammed on her brakes.

In IL, if you claim it on your insurance and it is considered totaled, a salvage title will be issued.
Then you have to buy it back from the insurance company.
When you buy it back, if you repair it, it than has to be inspected after by the state police and
you'll need documents for all the used parts you put on.
All this to help combat auto theft.

I had someone pull the car fax. It doesn't even list the wreck on there at all. So yes the title is clean and clear.

This is where you get screwed with cheapo insurance/ a lazy agent-broker/ or not having the correct policy on your 15 year old car.

The title, sooner or later, will list the accident and the officer's estimate of the damages in his report.

You may need to look into this further.

No matter what happens to my car, my deductible is $100 and it is insured to $7,000 through Haggerty and will be repaired to the standard it was, or I will collect on a total loss.

Yes it costs $600 a year.

From what you have said I would be raising hell with your agent/broker assuming you had collision coverage. He is on the hook to keep you covered so long as you paid the required premium.

However traffic laws are pretty universal. You rear-end someone, no matter what the circumstances, it's your fault!

Good luck. The car IS WORTH $500 to someone needing those parts, but no one is going to fix it for under ~$2-3K properly.

And you can replace it for less than that.

Cheers

My previous GT was crashed. The insurance totaled it out, cut me the check less the buyback. The title never changed hands and it was never marked as salvage.

Accidents typically will not get reported until the insurance is involved... IIRC it has nothing to do with a police report since their findings may not be agreed to by the insurance companies.

I am a bit surprised though that the other party did not make a claim against your insurance which I could only assume would have triggered an event on your policy/vehicle and carfax. Then again maybe they are not allowed to mark the VIN with that claim since you didn't make one and there was no inspection/assessment made of your vehicle for value or damage.

If this car was down the road from me it would be in my driveway, nothing cool ever comes up in my area.
