Wire harness & Door panels

Post by Guest »

Just got a '90 GTZ Quad4, 5spd. Needs engine wire harness and door panels.

Car was sitting in a field and mice ate most of the engine wiring.

Door panels dont have to be GTZ but have power locks (power windows too but have the switch is on the console) also has the seatbelt in the door. Color is lite gray.

Thnx

Basicly its the wires in the engine compartment. I pretty much need all of it. The 2 main conectors are under the plastic cover on the top of the firewall. One is on the top left and the other is on the top right. The one on the right has a screw in the center holding it in but also has some kind of tar sealing it. It will take some effort to get it apart. The one on the left I'm not sure how to get that one off the firewall. The rest of the wire loom is held on with clips which you can use a small screw driver to open them. I need it in one piece as some of the conectors are chewed down to the conector. I realize this may take some time to do. If you have any more questions let me know. Can supply pics of what I'm talking about if needed.

Well, For the most part, the harness is almost out except for I have no idea how to get the wires out from the two corners of the firewall.
Anyone with some tips or tricks on removing this?

Heres the right side before removal (bolt in the middle)

Heres the right side out. Just loosen the bolt all the way as far out as it will go. You can pull on the wires as you loosen the bolt. you may hear some creaking or cracking which may be the old tar breaking loose.

The left harness I only managed to clean some of the tar off. This is before.

This is after. Tomorrow I'll get under the dash to see if there are any clips or screws holding it in place.

Well got the left side out tonight (just in time for rain... Grrrrr). Had to hack the tar off and there is a screw thats pretty impossible to get to unless you have swivle head extentions. Its on the top of the harness (see below).

Part of the plastic harness is still there with the screw

For those wondering where that pesky leak is comming from heres a clue. You can thank me later. Wonder if they sell silicone by the quart?

In other words, get bolt out and PULL!!!!   I'll give it a go in the next couple days.

Any tips on removing the caulking without chopping up the wires?

That last picture shows a lot of rusted out areas in where water would get right into the car.  I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if this is primary area for a water leak into the car.  I know on mine that there are many cracks in that caulking and would not be surprised if there is rust under there.
Seeing that, I am going to go out and put a little extra sealant in those areas as preventive maintenance.

When you re-seal those areas make sure to use automotive-grade seam sealer.  You do not want to use Silicone RTV because it has acids in it and can actually promote the rust.  You could also use window urethane, but it's not really designed for that application.

Just goin to POR-15 that area inside and out. Then it wont matter what sealer I use.

I just used a long screwdriver and a hammer. All you need to do is seperate the sealer around the outside of the plastic on the harness, get the screw out (if you can) then pull. There are tabs on the top and botton, you can see one of them if you look up inside the dash,  but they didnt stop me from pulling it out.

Certaily is the cause of my water leak ÂÂÂ
