'91-'95 Drivers Side power window switch

Post by Asylum »

I think my switch is bad in that the window is intermittent and I have had occasions where the damn "auto-down" would stick and I could feel how hot it got.
Can't find one locally and new is just a dream.
Anyone have a known good one?
Cheers

New is not a dream... Look before you say that. They are on rock auto but unfortunately they don't have the auto down feature anymore. I just put one in my Indy last year.

Scratch that, apparently because they have one for the 90 does not mean they have one for a 91+ interior.. My bad... That blows. I have one but I hope someday to still install power windows on my car so I'm not going to let it go.

I'm not sure what you want. The switches I have are for both windows. Is 1996 different? I think this one came out of a 92.

Well I guess he's saying the driver side one is what's acting up, but yes it's a double switch. 91-96 should be the same and his is a 91

There are various options for how quick you want it. So would it be ok to go with the slowest delivery?

Before we get to that. I tested the switch on my 96 to be sure it works and it does.
However GM had some window motors or regulators as they are some times called that go bad.
I experienced them on my 93 mini van drivers side and my 94 mini van passenger side.
One symptom is it goes down pretty good but struggles going back up at first ]
but it gets worse until it won't go up or down.
To test your motor to be sure it is ok and that the switch is not OK, with the key off,
Pry out the bottom of the switch to remove it and disconnect the wire harness.
Use a paper clip cut in two, and place one between
the 1st and 2nd contacts. brown to brown.
Then the other on the 2nd set of contacts. Blue to black
See my picture, I tried this myself to be sure it would work.
Then turn your ignition switch on. The window should go down. If it doesn't your motor is bad.
But be sure to turn the key off before the window hits bottom!!! You don't want to stress the motor.
You can re-connect your switch back on to get the window back into the up position.
