The Old Man is going Turbo! NOT!!

Post by Asylum »

Rodney finally got to me and after riding in his 12.50/118 mph car, and it idles like a baby I'm convinced.

The First Ever 3500 Beretta is getting turbo'd for next year. Budget is $3000.

I had thought about the camshaft et al issue and with it the idle issues with an auto, and was having some concerns. And that alone done right is almost $1800.

The turbo option, now that I'm actually right next door to it, is the way to go.

And hecky-darn, Rodney already has the tune for the OBD-1 pretty well figured out for a turbo 3500!!

So my new goal is 13.20 (that should be pretty easy) 100% streetable and drive it anywhere. I'm even going to re-install the A/C.

(I'm a suck and won't shift it above 6000 RPM)

In fact I may loose some FDR. 3.33 may be enough with 24" tires. Have to do some calculations on that. Say 110 mph?

Anyone want a set of headers for a Beretta (relatively) cheap? Anyone want a 3.73, 3t40 gear set. I actually have TWO.

The parts buying starts NOW!! :Bravo:

we already have a turbo why not be more unique and go supercharge but i think an all motor auto 3500 beretta would be SICK

Good Shane. You build one and live with it.

I was ready to go that route, but after a ride in a 12.50 Beretta that idles like a stock 3100 and doesn't need much if any babysitting week to week, I'll go the turbo route.

YES I'm a convert. Rodney's car is scary! It really is something else!

And he has already figured out the chip!!

Anymore questions??

Do it Barry, although you should talk to Rodney.

He was pretty involved with the Grand National crowd before coming to Berettas and has some thoughts on that rear mount set up.

I was thinking about it for a while and he convinced me it's just too much work for the benefit you realize.

12 second Berettas FTMFW!

And you can't run 12's, 118 mph, get 28 mpg.

Hey I'm a convert!! Until I saw and rode in Rodney's car I was having no part of boost.

NOW!! Holy Crap!! It's scary!

And he's only at 11 pounds of boost! That was his first time out on a lousy track with a very initial/make-it-run tune.

The 12.52 he was spinning like crazy. 118 MPH

Wait 'til he kicks it up to 15#

This could well be an 11 second car!

Yes it was. :) Be sure to start a build topic or just keep this one going. :good: Oh and I could use the headers if they have D ports.

I have researched rmt alot and yes, it has a ton of down sides. Maybe it would be better to ditch my headers for 3500 manis and go that way with it.

They are S&S headers, ceramic coated and will fit ANY Beretta,

Been on the car a year and a half, never seen snow, salt of even cold.

Includes the down pipe, such as it is, flex connector and the dump/cut-out.

$500 shipped.

Nuts. You want an old man who's nuts?

Who was the first idiot to decide a 3500 was a good idea in a Beretta when it was thought it couldn't be done?
Chris Wilson pulled it off in my car! The FIRST EVER 3500 Beretta!

Who decided a 3.73 FDR with an LSD just might/maybe live in a 3t40?
Bill Clark built it and it is still the hardest shifting FWD trans anyone has ever been in.

Who STILL has the quickest and fastest N/A 3500 Beretta?
And there are still those who question Rodney's ability to tune OBD-1.

But it's going to get nuttier (sp) Is that a word?
