Links to other websites/photos
Howdy,
I was wondering if there is any way that a link posted on the forum could open in a new window (or in my case it would be a tab) instead of in the same window. I think at least a few times per visit I click a link and then I close the tab and realized I just closed myself out of the forums, lol.
It's not a big deal and more of a convenience/I'll get it right someday thing, but if possible or if I could change a setting somewhere, that would be rad!
Anyone else have this issue, or am I the only dummy that does this? lol
Thanks,
Mark

Re: Links to other websites/photos
I'm using Firefox 7.0.1 and when I click an internal link it automatically opens in the same window. When I click an external link it automatically opens in a new tab. I don't know what's wrong with your shizz? lolsnowblindburd wrote:Howdy,

Re: Links to other websites/photos
It could be a browser setting, but I've never had an issue on any forum but this one. I'll look around I guess.
Re: Links to other websites/photos
Your problem is this. Your links have to have a tag around them, in order to pop them ... eretta.net
The first one is without [url] commands and the second is with them. See if they work differently

Oh okay. Thanks, Chris. I see they're not automatically appended to a link here. Weird. And I guess I should have said without right clicking, lol. I knew that much at least =P.

Yes, but that involves pressing another button. =P. Yeah I think I'll just use that from now on here. Thanks Geoff =).
Re: Links to other websites/photos
ctrl + left click will open in a new tab, shift + left click will open in a new window, and no there is no setting to force this on the forum side

Thanks, sir!
Hm, it must just be programmed into some of the other forums I am on to automatically add the tags.

Yeah, it's not just you. This is the only site that makes me manually click my "new window" button (in my case, I have my mouse wheel click set to this function). All the other sites I'm on automatically open links in new windows and my browser is also set up that way. This is the only one that doesn't. It can be "fixed" in the database or admin panel.

Re: Links to other websites/photos
The real problem is the OP is not tagging the link with the url tag as Chris noted. If that's done then it does open a second window.

Re: Links to other websites/photos
That's true. The url tags work, but I'm saying it can be coded into the site to have links automatically tagged.

Re: Links to other websites/photos
It can? Are you familiar with how phpBB works? Will stated there is no setting to change that on the forum side.

yes, I am aware of that method, did you read the article though?
"Note: The change will not affect existing posts, you must edit them so they can be reprocessed."
I said there is no option for it, meaning it would have to be changed at the code level, which breaks the validation and causes other issues. Also any existing posts would need to be manually edited, and that's just not going to happen at this point.
