Nice!! Making the front suspension the way we all wish the factory would have. Excited to see it come together (in other words, jealous I can't do it to mine) lol

Finished modifying the struts; still need to weld the base of the coil over sleeve support (aka the washer) and weld the adapter sleeves to the top of the strut tube, and paint them, but here they are assembled.

Pretty sweet. You thinking adjustable heims for the sway bar links? I think we talked about this before. But the 5/8 ones I built were too big and needed misalignment spacers. I bought stock links and they are very light duty by comparison, so you can go smaller than 5/8 off that's your plan.

I may later on, but for time constraints and to get this together for BFest this year, I’ll use off the shelf parts I already have. The Moog units are beefier than factory, and since I already have them, that’s what will go on.

Welded the insert spacers and the coil sleeve “shelf” in place, ground down the welds (for clearance of the sleeve), and painted the housings.

Also removed the front exhaust manifold off the Z26 to place on the Alero I bought (the Alero had a one off set of Doug’s Headers, and a built 93-94 NVG550 trans with a Torsen LSD that is going into the Z26 - factory parts going onto the Alero and I’m selling it).

Tomorrow will be the final time the struts are assembled before they go into the Z, and I might start fitting the turbo headers onto the Z.

Awesome.
It looks like you found off-the-shelf parts for everything except the top plate that bolts in to the strut tower?

Is the threaded sleeve just a slip fit over the strut housing tube, or is it secured somehow?

Just curious, it's a sweet setup.

I'll get P/N's and links to everything I ordered - but you are right, everything was available minus the camber plate, which was made by a fellow member a few years ago.

It's a slip fit - but since I didn't measure my struts before ordering the sleeves, I had to grind down the entire area where the sleeves would be to fit them properly. So it's a super tight fit. The sleeves will rest on the washer "perch" and won't go anywhere due to them sitting on the shelf under compression from the spring. I could put a set screw in it to secure it but there isn't much of a need for that.

Didn’t get as much done on the Z as I wanted to, but I got work done on the Alero that I need the trans out of, so I guess it’s a step in the right direction.

I did get the coil overs fully assembled and torqued down, and laid out a few of the parts I hope to get onto the car next weekend...

If you want your headers coated - there is a placed in Denver that does it.

Callico coatings - a few guys in the G8/SS group have been taking their headers there.

Thanks for the tip; I’ll probably use them next time around as right now I’m just putting everything together, if it needs paint, I’m using what I have in the garage instead of powdercoating/ceramic coating to save time and costs.

I’ll get things done the way I want when I build the forged block.
