Project 91 "SS" 3400/5spd

Post by woody90gtz »

Here's some pics to catch everyone up on my project who doesn't visit bstuff. On Jan 25 I bought a rust-free 91 shell from Shane and got started on my resto-mod project. My beloved 95 has rusted beyond repair, so I'm swapping everything from it over to the 91, with some more upgrades.

Here's the list:
'04 3400 with Multec-II injectors
Custom tune with Moates Autoprom
5spd with EP race limited slip
SPEC stg 2+ clutch
Driveshaft Shop 400hp axles
Ported & custom-engraved UIM
TCE 65mm throttle body
S&S headers with new ceramic coating
Tranzgenic CAI w/ K&N filter
'95 upper engine mount with two FFP lower dogbones
white88gt's billet 91 trans mount
FFP underdrive pulley
Poly everything
Eibach springs & KYB struts & shocks
FE7 front swaybar & Addco rear
Custom heim endlinks
Shock, strut & subframe braces
Body-color 17x7s with 225/45R17s
92+ front brakes & rear disc
Braided brake & clutch hoses
Black interior
Reupholstered Z04 seats in black/gray
Tahoe temp/compass mirror
Rust proofed body
New paint (gray metallic)

There is probably more I forgot, because this list was pretty old. Here are some pics from Jan 25 to current:

Wow! That's a ton of hard work you've done. It looks great though! I'd love to be able to be that thorough with mine.

I needed to do this with my 95Z26 for a couple years and never had the time. When I got underneath it last summer to replace the gas tank I realized it was too late to save it.

I was all set to drop the drivetrain in tonight and found out I had no bolts for the clutch to flywheel. I never thought about it because my flywheel & clutch I bought from SPEC for the Camaro included the hardware. I tore my boxes of parts apart looking for something that would work and found nothing. So, it's off the NAPA in the morning.

I ended up helping my dad load a whole bunch of Mopar junk for the swap meet this weekend. I hope he brings NONE of it back.

I did get a couple pics of the interior progress, and started to install the clutch before I realized I had no pressure plate bolts.

Oh and I didnt update before... the 3400 is now wearing LA1 fuel rails and pressure reg with Multec-II injectors wired into the MPFI harness. The MAP is also wired in and the cruise has been retrofitted successfully (I think). I also have my stereo in with my iPod jack installed and hidden on its way to the console. Was thinking of poking it out the ebrake lever opening and leaving the iTouch in the cup holder spot. No fancy bracket needed.

Shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit. Big problem. My driver side axle is too long. I had to muscle it pretty good to even hook the ball joint up to the knuckle, and it binds at ride height. So I have to make a call to The Driveshaft Shop on Monday to see what they can do to fix it. In the mean time I pulled the pass axle from my 95 (which is an Advance Auto jobbie) to slap in there until I can get the good ones straightened out.

So I did get the rear header flanged, wrapped & installed. I also put the gauge CTS in the plug hole in the back of the engine block and routed the wires away from exhaust heat. I got the subframes in & the suspension installed as well as my ricified brakes from Jonny Boy.

My shift cable retaining bracket should be here on Monday or Tues. It's discontinued, but a dealer in Mass had a NOS GM one on hand. The t-bone engine mount bracket is delayed until at least Thurs or Fri because Northeast Fabricators' laser went down. I am none too happy with them.

Wow, that exhaust isn't hanging too low? You have seen what I had to do to mine to shorten it up right? Also that header wrap is gong to beg for rusting like a bastard... Mine isn't wrapped and I have no issues with it... I only put a spark plug boot over one of my heater core lines which runs really close to the front bank down tube.

Nice brakes btw, they look brand new! LOL ;)
