Could have sworn that the 88's had like 5hp less than the 89's.

You may be right about the hp. Here's the pics of the sideskirts:

I too did not know the side skirts where different each year (88 GTU, 89 GTU, 90 Indy). Does this only apply to the side skirts or is there other differences in the front and rear spoilers. What I find weird is that not all GTU's had the red stripe around the windows or was this only for 88's also. That red stripe is another thing that made it noticeable that it was a GTU.

I haven't noticed any difference in the front or rear gfx. As for the window strip, it seems the 88s came with the color matching strip (white, red, or black) but again my 88 did not. The gentleman I bought it from used a pinstriping tape to add it to the car. My black 88 has the strip painted from C&C I believe.

Is that just a stripe I've never seen one in person so I don't know if it was just painted on or what

No differences in the front lip or the spoiler. Although the front lips may vary in material used to make them, they have the same shape. My opinion on the 2.8L is that it is awesome. It is often regarded as one of Chevy's strongest and most durable engines. I love the damn thing and wont be swapping engines anytime soon. If my Beretta ever exploded, I would seek out another '89 but maybe go for the 3.1L engine as an upgrade. They are the damn same engine though.

I havent called about the gtu yet.. though my check would be here from my z by now.. not yet. If the gtu and gt are both still available, im going

GTU !

More questions about it, is it a 4 or 3 speed auto? Ik they can be standard, but rare. Also, how common or rare are digi dashs? Also, the gtu and indy wheels are the same design right, with exception of indy having color matched inserts? Where as the gtz has the color matching wheels?

Lastly what does gtu stand for, and gtz for that matter? Grand touring..? And where does 26 in z26 come from?

GTU is from the IMSA GT race series. GTU is a group in that:

(from wiki) "GTU cars were Grand Touring type cars with engines of 2.5 L displacement or less. This series was dominated by the Porsche 914-6 and by the SA22 Mazda RX-7s (1978–1985) through the end of the 80's.

As for Z26, it was a the number between the cavalier Z24 and the Camaro Z28 in Chevy's line-up to round it out.

GTZ....Not a clue

I'm guessing it's from the fact that they (GM, seems like Chevy in particular) were going through a "Euro" phase, and they thought GTU sounded Euro? Just a wild guess though, I may be (and probably am) way off.

Thanks for taking the time to post the pictures up, 88_GTU. Never knew there was a difference in side skirts (not much, but a difference) between the two years, and the INDY.

The digital dash is awesome, I don't think I'd ever give it up. So nice to see your instant and average MPG, outside temperature, fuel range..ect And it's just plain neat looking (mine's my avatar for now) IMO it's the best looking digital dash from the 80's-early 90's, seems like it aged nicely.

What exactly is in bad shape about the GTU your gonna look at? Is the paint peeling or something?

Yep, there is also a digital tach as well as analog "graph" style speedometer and tach as well. The digital speedometer is three digit and the analog graph one goes up to 80 if you couldn't tell from my avatar pic.

Yep, here you go, just ignore that the avg. MPG is 0.0 and that the tach is 00. The car was not turned on when I snapped the pics and the avg mpg is zero because I had the battery unhooked. The SES is also because the car is not started.

These big enough? Had to resize them from 3264x1840 because this site wouldn't let them upload.
