Finally have my 1990 Indy
Will post some "before" pictures soon as I plan on a long term restoration but I drove to Wisconsin this past weekend to take delivery of a 1990 Yellow Indy. I know that doing a restoration on her is not a wise "investment" but I plan on keeping this one until I am using a walker. In any event, the Indy was in above average shape externally (no rust, body very straight) and mechanically (drove it 70-80 for 700 miles with no issues, no leaks, good power and very tight shifting) but she needs a little help inside.
My list for restoration includes:
Interior
New dash - its warped from too many days in the sun
New headliner - too many drives with all the windows down
New Carpet
Possibly new driver seat - no rips but left side support is beat up
Only one speaker works but radio is factory which is nice
Door panels are not horrible, but I would like to replace
Rubber window trim is brittle, cracked and breaking off
Mechanically
Will do all new belts
New AC/Retro
Flush coolant
Maybe trans flush but i have heard horror stories and its working great now
Check brakes
Check suspension maybe refresh struts, shocks
Dimmer switch is broke, car has brights only!
Want to clean it up
Exterior
Paint is faded in spots and clear coat is peeling on hood and spoiler but until I can source some decals I am not sure what to do here
Hunt down any hidden rust on underside or under hood - none on body
Wheels have some blemishes, no road rash but some discoloration
Maybe a nice tint job
Now a few questions for those in the know:
Can I replace dash with any 89-90 GT/GTU?
What else off a non Indy can be used?
Anyone know a good source for Indy parts?
Has anyone done an AC retro/replace? I am assuming the whole thing needs replaced, whats the cost?
Anything else I should look at on this Indy as part of restoration?
Special note and thanks to James M who I bought the car from. Good guy, was very honest and did his level best to rep the car properly knowing I was driving 700 miles to get it. I normally shy away from cars owned by those under 25 or 30 (no offense and yes I get off my lawn) but James seemed very mature and honest.
We struck a fair deal and the car was as advertised. Not sure he will be back to these forums since he sold the car, but it was the one in Sheboygan and I am VERY happy with the car and price paid.
Looking forward to being pretty active on boards, some good folks here!

Good luck with the restoration. Cars are rarely a wise investment but it's fun and keeps folks out of trouble.
Yes get the pics up soon.
The AC? I assume you mean to convert it to r134a? You only need to apply a vacuum to get any r-12 out as well as
make sure no moisture is in the system. Then and add 6-8 oz of PAG oil to the system, you can use the oil charge cans of r134a
to add the oil. Charge it to 70% of the r12 amount and it should be good unless you have leaks.
Thats what I did to the 92 Beretta I had and it worked fine.

Good luck on the dash and door panels. They are hard to find. Anyway, it's always nice to have someone join that is restoring and not selling.

Re: Finally have my 1990 Indy
The Indy has a special place in my heart
It was the first car I ever bought on my own - while attending college no less. Paid full retail and I think 17% interest
I traded it in on a Corvette in 96 and took a bath on it.
Now I get it back for well under 2k... revenge is sweet lol

My original was a yellow 5 speed with manual windows!
This is auto yellow with power. Besides the way I beat up mine in 90, I am certain its in the crusher

Ok just checking, that would have been a rare thing. Two more posts and you can put up some photos.
So you bought the one for sale here?

Correct. I did not find it here initially, but came here in my info search and also saw the owner was listing it on the site.

I took some pictures last night and will get them up here as soon as I am able
She cleaned up rather nice for a 23 year old... if dog years are 7:1 what are cars?

You gotta fix what you have or find as much as you can to replace/repair from a JY car. Best you can do for the dash is a cover from Ebay... They fit quite well from what I've seen on here. Too bad they don't make them for a 91+ interior.

Re: Finally have my 1990 Indy
I did not expect to be able to find much of anything, interior wise, new. Besides the searching and treasure hunting is half the fun right?
I ordered a dash cover from coverking and it arrived yesterday, but I have not had the opportunity to put it on yet. The rest of the interior is in remarkably good shape and the only issues are things that will be easy fixes, such as the headliner.
Now I just have to find an affordable set of Indy decals so I can get this baby repainted.
