Clutch fork. Just to verify.

Post by Beretta1234567 »

I've been looking up the Clutch fork for the 1998 2.8L v6 Manual Trans Beretta.
Is it the same for all 87-96 Manual 5 SPD trans? I see different years on different listings, but they all look the same.

There are different clutch forks depending on the year. Without checking the parts book, usually it's 87-89 (Clutch fork is visible from the outside, slave cylinder attached to steel bracket) and 90-92 (clutch fork completely inside the casting, slave cylinder attached directly to transmission case) The 92-93 ones don't have them at all, instead have a concentric slave cylinder underneath the throwout bearing.

Relevant research. I'm bumping my thread to update and add relevant info.

Just to verify: I am looking for the correct parts for a 1988 Beretta 2.8L v6 MPFI 6-SPD Manual.
If Anyone can tell me which of these photos are correct for this exact vehicle, that would be helpful.

A little history: (Sorry I forgot to add this sooner)
The existing problem with this vehicle is that when the clutch is pressed in, it never fully disengages the clutch unless it is right on the floor, and it still drags a little bit, but its not damaging to the gears, its in neutral, but its basically rubbing a little.
I'm told a cylinder was moved from the first hole to the second hole to make it work this much. Hole 3 makes it impossible to push the clutch in. Hole 1 and the clutch never disengages.

Current research efforts:
I keep getting conflicting results when trying to find parts for this vehicle. I figure I will buy all I can that deals with the clutch operation, except the cylinders, and replace everything when I eventually get to work on it. I already bought a new clutch fork, but I do not know if it is correct. I have yet to find the correct bearing, and as far as the clutch, I have not looked yet.

1) The photo of the v6 Manual trans, I'm wondering if this is how it looks on the 1988 Beretta.
2) The photo's of the 2 bearings, I'm not sure which one is right, Both keep popping up. (The existing bearing in the 88 is getting cut into/grooves in the back of it from the clutch fork). However, I do not know what kind of bearing is already in the vehicle.
3) The photo of a Clutch fork, I bough this. I'm hoping its the right one for the 88 Beretta v6 manual trans?

This is Manual 6 SPD transmission For the Beretta 2.8, 3.1, 3100 v6 engines. What year or series, I do not know.

I found 2 types of bearings. I do not know which one is correct yet.

Clutch fork and info in second post.

There is no fork installed in the transmission picture. Looks like that may be the 92+ version with the hydraulic throwout bearing. Bearing 1 matches up to the fork you posted, which is the 90-91 style. Bearing 2 I do not recognize...it may be the 87-89 style. I do know that the fork you pictured is incorrect for an 88. I have an 87-89 parts trans I can snap a pic and show you that design.

I know for sure the 1988 Beretta That has the problem, it has a fluid piston for the peddle, and another one for the clutch fork to move.
In that photo (Its not my photo, I found the photo online off a Beretta, was not labeled what kind of trans or year). The green circle is one side where the fork inserts, the other side is visible.

What about this photo?
I did not include it earlier because I can not tell if it is for a v6 or not. But It has the same clutch fork I bought.
Transmission.

If you can post some photos of whatever you have of the 87-89 style trans, that would be much appreciated. This way I will know for sure what it looks like, and have a better idea of what to expect.
The car was never right from the start, someone had it apart before it ended up in the family. It was an auction vehicle a long time ago.
When I eventually get it, I plan to take it apart and put it back to the way it belongs, hopefully.
I'm starting to think that maybe whoever had it apart either changed the transmission to a different one, and kept the old parts, or put new parts on the older transmission. Because whatever it is, it is defiantly messed up.

The reason I bought the clutch fork is because they are impossible to find, and I stumbled upon it by accident, so I figured it was worth the risk.

It's always good to grab rare parts when you can. I've been hoarding Getrags. haha

That pic is actually my trans (yes, v6). It is the 90-91 setup where the slave bolts directly to the bellhousing. I'll get a pic of the older style tonight.

Here are the pics. Looks like the same throwout bearing as 90-91.

Thank you very much for posting the photos.
That clutch fork is defiantly different from the one I bought like you said.

I sent a PM.
