1989 V6 Digital dash 5 Speed VIN number

Post by themixer »

Random question does anyone have a VIN number of a car like this? I am trying to find a memcal for this and it is becoming difficult. It needs to specifically be this configuration !

yep I have two. I'll share the one from my donor, 1989 beretta 2.8 5spd, used it along with my LG5 from my TGP donor to build my '89 Corsica 5spd hatchback turbo.

WOT-Tech can make a chip if your missing one:

They have boxes where you can select year, engine, trans, digital/analog dash, egr, thermostat.

I got my chip from them and it worked great when I did one of my 3.1 and 5 speed swaps a long time ago.

I have purchased 5 chips from Ben, none have worked correctly. I am looking for an OEM chip to run a 3400 swapped car with the smaller injectors.

Personally I dont think the OEM chip would be any better than Bens chips. If you had a data logger Ben might be able to tune the chip for your application. You would have to ask him.

An APU1 Auto Prom from Moates.net will allow you to program your own chips and do your own data logging. It works with Tuner Pro.

I know there are values for cubic inch displacement and fuel injector lb/hr flow rate that can be changed. That might be a good starting point if you haven't already tried it.

I'm getting my APU1 tonight... I can then pull the Digi dash Auto bin from my Indy... Not sure how much that would help you. If you can bring some chips that Ben made for you, we can compare at Bfest hopefully.

i sent a few chips from ben to woody, he overwrote them with a tune that was suppose to be for a 5 speed 3400 swap digital dash form superdave. None of the chips worked correctly with the dash. I may have one chip left from Ben will take a look

My GTU's digital dash is run by the stock ECM. The 3800 is run by its' own PCM. If you are having trouble getting the engine to run right, consider going with a stock 3400 PCM piggy-backed in place (you can run the bigger injectors from the 3400 then too), then you just need a digi-dash ECM/PROM to run the instruments -and it won't matter 5-speed or auto because it will have nothing to do with the idle control. You will need a separate CTS for each computer, and you will have decisions to make regarding which computer runs the cooling fan, operates the fuel pump relay, etc. I am doing this on my 3.4 DOHC Turbo car now too, but I took a lot more time to fully integrate this one's harnesses rather than just running two separate harnesses in the bay. Just a thought for you -another bonus is that you have a newer (reflashable) computer, instead of a much older and harder to replace computer running your engine.

I wont be at Bfest but my Indy is a 3.1 auto with digital dash as well. Send me a PM if you need any BIN or xdf files.
I didnt mention it because it isnt a 5 speed but if you can make it work on a 5 speed that can work too.
I also have a copy of the 1990 TGP eeprom on my hard drive among other misc things. lol
