Beretta GT into a Beretta GUTZ INDY

Postby Saintluciferlord » Wed Sep 19, 2018 6:46 pm

I plan to take my 1992 Beretta Gt and Combine the features of the gtu, gt, gtz, and indy into one vehicle. My question is can it be done? And what parts would be most noted to use aside from the obvious ones?

Anything can be done with time and money.

What "features" are you thinking of doing? There is a lot of variability between models.

An Indy already has the GTU body kit with the Z style spoiler and seats. I don't think you can mix more than that without mismatching body panels...

Well, ish. Technically, the Indy sideskirts are different than the GTUs' but it is a very subtle difference. The GTUs' spoilers are the only 'unique' ones offered originally. The suspensions were a little different too, I supposed you could put an Indy's FE7 front sway-bar onto a GT if you wanted, but then you are faced with the different struts... I have never been able to tell much difference in cornering between FE3 and FE7 myself, but my cars aren't exactly apples-to-apples anyway... GTUs and Indys shared the same door-panel emblem too, I suppose you could play with the wheels though... Not really sure what the goal here is, I guess.

FE7 swaybar ends are held on by the 2 lower strut bolts on the knuckle? Why would it need different struts?

...And, getting really technical, the springs are different too. :pardon:

My 17,000 mile Indy I don't know as I never had to take it apart in there.

That is strange to me. I've never seen it that way before.
Two other 1990 Indy's I've owned were never like that, they both had this:
(This is one of the two spares I have).

Did GM change it at some point?

Yes. 90-91 had the FE7 brackets, 92+ was the strut tab. I have the brackets on mine as well. I think the end links are also different length.

I never knew U and Indy skirts were different. Do you have pics to show it?

I think the bracket design is better, this way its separate from the strut, more options.

I didn't know the GTU and Indy kits were different other than the trunk spoiler?

Yeah I'm a bit skeptical on the side skirts being any different... Both the kits were provided by C&C so I would be very surprised if they made a different set for the Indy after having them already designed for the 88 and 89 GTU's.

This was hashed-out years ago. IIRC, Ryan (Stylus) first pointed it out. Basic profile is the same, or close enough, but the front of them where they wrap into the wheel-well is totally different. Did anyone know the difference in GTU/Indy Chin-Spoilers? :D AFAIK, '88 GTUs were the different ones... Grey plastic instead of the yellow used in '89 and '90 (Indy). Someone with an all-original '88 GTU could verify though, there may have been a mid-year change or something...
GTU GFX Rgt1a.jpg
'89 GTU Right-Side GFX (Side Skirt). '88 is the same...
GTU GFX Lft1a.jpg
The GTU's Left GFX is the same style.
Yindy GFX Rgt1a.jpg
Indy GFX -I swear that car is yellow! Needs to be buffed out again...

Another Indy, Left side.

I should get these poor cars washed again before the weather goes South...

I can see why they changed them.
The GTU style looks like its prone to cracking in the front piece on each side.

A little, I agree. But, the Indy ones collect a lot of dirt, pine-needles, etc -more prone to rusting the lower fender. They are also less secure, so a solid bump against them is more likely to dislodge the side-skirt. The GTU GFX is either there or not, whereas the Indy could lose that front insert piece... Pros and cons to each style... I personally think the Indy skirt looks more 'finished', but the GTU looks more functional (I said 'looks').

So here's the real question... was the mold any different? Or perhaps did they just trim them down before assy? I'm leaning towards the latter, and that was a change for the notes that GT_Indy stated... prone to cracking, and attempt to protect the fender well there more. We all know they never got that right, even up through 96, since the first area's to rot are those corners behind the splash guard, BUT it appears they were trying different things.

Hard to know without seeing the parts side by side.
But I'm thinking they might have changed the molds on the ends.
