I like the MPFI 3.1. Slap a 5 speed to it and you have a decent daily driver.
A quad is nice, but not good for a DD. Then if you ever should need an engine, goodluck with that one. Those 2.3's are hard to find for under $500.00USd with under 120k miles.
3.1's are dime a dozen and are beasts.

ditto i have a 3.1 and that car eats tires for a snack or maybe my foot is just a little heavy. but anywho the gas mileage is not the greatest but that 3.1 has some beastly torque for such a small motor

3.1 hands down. Better power then my V-8 jeep and the best fuel mileage of all my vehicles. It's by far the most reliable engine i've ever had. I've only had to replace the waterpump and maintenence stuff. Never had an internal engine problem in all the years of track events, drag racing,auto-x, etc.......
The Quad4 Well I've had one and while its a fun motor, it's just not my cup of tea......

I have about 30,000 on my quad and it's a better daily driver then then first gen 2.8, second gen 2.8 and 3100 I have owned.  I have owned the car for over a year and 32mpg and 180hp is a sweet combo.
EDIT: I just passed 145,000 miles also on the original block, Head was changed due to previous owner over tightening sparkplugs and stripping the threads out.
Plus the aftermarket for the quad is better then the V6's too.

I'm disappointed that there's no V12 option (or 2.8 MPFI for that matter), because, gas prices be damned, I'd take it. I'm happy with the 3100 that I have now, it does what I need it to. After it goes, who knows what I'll try to get in the bay, but a manual tranny will be taken for the ride.

I have had bad luck with those Quads. I am not giving up though!
I think the most miles I EVER got out of a quad would be around 4000miles. So that's about one oil change and a few miles after that. I use Mobile one oil in ALL my vehicles, AC Delco Filter...
It had about 100,000 normal driving miles on it when I got it, & it died at around 104,000 miles.
My most recent quad, it didn't even make the first oil change . I don't know how many miles it had on it. Then I put in another 2.3 in it... Well it started up with a knock. It was said to only have like 60k on it. We'll see what happens this weekend when I go for the 3rd engine in this car.

Yea man I have been following your post on bstuff... if it makes you feel better that free quad i picked up has a spun rod...
I am just ripping it apart to get the goods off of it. Can't complain though for it being free
The quazar has a rebuilt quad in it with 128k on it and it runs absolutely perfectly... The interior is perfect condition (now atleast) but the outside is pretty rough paint wise... some rust spots (not in critical areas) I gotta keep my mouth shut about the outside though because I didn't wash the 2 years of dirt/dust/debri off of it yet haha too busy getting the interior back together since I fixed the waterleak

It sucks that your free Q4 has a spun rod. Like you said, good thing it was free!

3.1 is a tank of an engine. I beat that thing like hell when I was 16 and 17 and it took it like a champ, and still goes strong. Plus it sounds way better than a quad.

I really wish my car came with a 3.1 auto. I'd love it even more.

3400sfi/5speed in a garage kept '93 GT to GTU conversion, that is for cruising only (in my dreams). But in my daily driver I enjoy my 3.1/auto. I get a consistent 30MPG on the highway with a bit of city driving mixed in there; And that's on a motor with 263,000 miles on it and no rebuild or headgasket replacements. I'd have to say that my drivetrain is real world proof that the 3.1 was a pretty decent motor for its time.
Do the 3100sfi motors get better gas milage than the MPFIs? I can't remember now.

Hhhmmm, why not have all of them?...lol. I love the quad, cause that topend sound kills...shift_7000 is nice too . My old 3.1 was a tank, never ever broke on me, but my new 3400 is soo fun to drive. Add the 5 speed, and it's pretty damn fast too. walk a quad fer sure

I like my 3.8 Stupidcharged/auto combo that I have now better than all of them!
My GT was a 2.8/auto and I liked it...thought it had a good amount of torque...for its time of course.
My Z26...well...it got good gas mileage on the highway!

A 3100/3400 5spd would be the best, IMO. If we're talking factory optioned vehicles then I have to say the 3.1 5spd - the one I had was over 200k miles on the original everything and it was just a hoot to drive.
