What's the Hype About These Cars?
What's the Hype About These Cars?
Some people hate them, others love them. I find it interesting there are fan pages for Beretta's, but not other cars like the Ford Escort, Buick Century, etc. My Beretta grew on me. But why is there allot of hype over these cars, is it because they were discontinued? because they're fairly rare? what's your opinion
Re: What's the Hype About These Cars?
Concerning the Beretta in particular, there is no hype over this car! All that we have is this site, a yearly meet and a highly dedicated group of owners.
Why? Well I can't speak for anyone else but I feel the love for my Beretta mainly because it was the first car that I bought and modded out myself. The first car that I was able to do some of the mechanical work on. I love the way it drives, the feel of the ride and of course the look of the car.
I can assure you that there is no hype over this car due to its rarity. Sure, they are getting harder and harder to come by, but no one cares. The general public quit caring about this car right after they quit making them in 1996.

Re: What's the Hype About These Cars?
Reasons why I like my car.
As others it was the first car that I began to modify and then I noticed is rarity and I liked its looks.
Main reasons.
Its unique, it shares some lines of the mid 80's Camaro's to give it a nice agressive sporty look. And I enjoy working with a platform that is not overly Hyped up... It makes it a challenge and then you can be and have a one of a kind car. I don't know anyone else who has a 12 sec Factory color Raspberry Metallic Beretta.

Re: What's the Hype About These Cars?
My old man asks me the same thing, too. I like them because my first car was a GTZ and I fell in love. They are sporty, cheap to modify and practical. Fuel mileage is pretty good, they are not overly complicated, and very capable in snow, etc.
I'm on Beretta #3.

Re: What's the Hype About These Cars?
I like the looks, I grew up around a pile of the cars outside my grandpa's shop, and I've been in love with them since they came out. He had a funnycar Beretta, and a Prostock Beretta. Can't ever get those images out of my head. It was the first car I ever sat in, and I will probably always have one.
I've looked for other cars, I've driven other cars, but when I go to the new car lot to pick out a ride, which I've done several times, NOTHING pings for me like finding a used piece of junk Beretta on Craigslist. I just cant seem to get excited about ANYTHING from any manufacturer. Nothing new anyway.

Re: What's the Hype About These Cars?
They are quite unique....
For one, they were designed in the same studio the camaro and corvette were, some models even sharing the same exact paint colors.
They were only built for 10 years, 87-96.
Among many, they were considered a poor man's camaro, which in turn was a poor man's corvette. LOL Although when I bought my Z26 it was the same price as a new V6 convertible plain camaro. So meh.
They had styling, performance, and really good handling, especially on the higher models. People see my car now, and still think it looks sharp, even for its age.
I guess if you have never driven one, its hard to explain.
As for the cars you mentioned, ugh. Ford escort? The Buick I understand, those were seriously underrated cars... But an escort????? lol
Not even in the same class. Might compare to something like a ... Cavy? Maybe. Probably not even that.

Some people say you should Not never compare woman's to cars... but:
It's like selecting your woman, for most of us, she will not be the Ms Universe, or the Cambridge's gifted or the best mother of them all...
You will just somehow end up together, and then you'll start feeling that this is it.... See where I am going with this?
My Beretta is not the fastest, most beautiful, exotic or practical car on the world, but I still feel that I've found "The one" for me.
Even if I would try something else, at the end of day I'd still miss the old one.
Tho even I can't drive L-body forever, eventually need to get something else for daily usage, but I think I'll always have one for recreational use.
And no common sense here, my car selection is all feeling based

Pretty much everything this guy said. It was my first car. They're very rare to see in this area and most don't know what it is.

Re: What's the Hype About These Cars?
The Beretta was "suppose" to replace the Camaro, as the Probe was suppose to replace the Mustang, and the Laser replace the Challenger, as the Big Three wanted to get away from Rear Wheel Drive.
The plan didn't work, LOL!!
People wanted the status quo.
But it is nice owning an absolutely stock looking Beretta that will smoke almost any 60's-70's muscle car at Test and Tune days at the track.
Berettas are a sickness for which there is no cure once contracted, so we deal with it.

I agree with Kurt. It takes a little know how and some desire to mock something up and make a workable part on one of these things. A little pride and puffed chest is always allowed when you built it rather than bolted something on.

I used to own a 2000 Ford escort zx2 like my z26 it was also a Fun peppy little car. Comes with a 2L zetec engine, its a cosworth engine great little engine. Lots of aftermarket. I think a very underrated car.
