I bought a new motor :)
Came across an awesome deal today so I took it. So I got a 3400 for $95 camshaft is broke but no other damage from what I can tell. Doesn't matter if there is because it's going under a major overhaul.

Is this a common problem with them, a guy at work said his 3400 broke his cam also.

yes very common. the cam is hollow so doesnt take a very good beating. def get a aftermarket cam for a 3400 .

Typically when a cam dies there is much more damage than you think... Lots of cooked bearings since the owner probably kept driving it with no oil pressure and also the cam will break when the cam bearings spin, so you will probably need to get the block line bored and use over sized cam bearings.
