ok i definetly want to upgrade my exhaust by using 2.25" piping mated to a flowmaster muffler. isit possible to not use a cat?? if so what difference will it make?? (having a cat compared to not having one) thanx a bunch in advance

Yes, you can do catless... it will reduce restriction and increase sound volume.  In many areas you can get dinged for it too by the cops.

I've had catless straight pipes since Arpil and I've never even been pulled over though... a lot of it depends on the area.

very noticable  check youre local laws, either talk to your mechanic, or call the DMV....they're could be either sound ordinance laws, or enviro laws, which either could force you to have cat come inspection time

It is illegal to not have a cat on a car that it was original equipment on, it is also illegal to replace a working cat, a lot of garages will not even replace a original cat with a high flow one.  With that said, if you don't have to pass an emissions test where you live you could consider it, but the car will be louder and have a funny smell.  A better alternative is replacing the restrictive stock cat with a high flow one.
