3.1l sfi or 3100 sfi

In a previous thread I was told that no 94 where produced with 3.1L only 3100. Now my original dealer sticker says the cars a 94 with a 3.1L SFI V6. So does this mean I do actually have a 3.1L or do I have the 3100? The reply, "well then that part won't fit", didn't really clear up all doubt in my mind. The engine says 3.1L on it, do 3100 clearly state they are 3100 SFI?

Quick way to check... Lift up your hood, look at the intake manifold. If it specifically says 3100 sfi then it is a 3100.

The above info given by 95Z26, is absolutely correct . There are great big numbers right on top of the engine, and big enough that a blind person could feel them and know what it is. A 3100 also has an aluminum oil pan,that bols to the blck, but also to 3 main bearing caps, the pans are not interchangable, and if the engine were apart, the 3100 has roller lifters, where a 3.1 does not. (unless someone has put them in after the fact)

The 3100 does not have roller lifters. It does have a roller camshaft, redesigned intake manifolds/heads. I don't know if the pistons were changed or not though. This is a big pet peeve, when people refer to a 3100 as a 3.1. They are two different engines!

I think you answered your own question in your first post. The sticker says you have a 3.1L *SFI*. Sequential Fuel injection. Thats the 3100. The earlier 3.1L has MPFI. Multi Port Fuel Injection.
The 3.1L MPFI says "3.1L Multi Port" on the intake plenum. The 3100 says "3100 SFI". Take a picture of your engine bay if your not sure and we'll let you know for sure. Or you can give us the build date of the car and we'd be able to tell you what engine it was as long as it wasnt really close to the transition period

The 3100 is actually a 3.1L capacity, so thats why the sticker perhaps says 3.1...

I'v torn apart 2 3100's so I'll stand ground and say they do have roller lifters, not just a roller profile cam...What good would a "roller" cam do without roller lifters? It might not even work because one point of the roller valve train was steeper, faster lift rates, which a hydrolic lifter/tappet would not be able to handle...

THANK YOU Sean & Gomer for your backing & support. It sure seems awful funny that while this thread was being constructed, I was outside tearing down a 3100 and I'm holding a roller lifter in my hand. Oh wait, maybe I'm some dumb F*** and and I don't have a clue as to what I've been doing in my 27 year career

#### I think I need to check the C02 levels in my house. I'm a dumbass, I guess I didn't read the intake right. The engines a 3100 SFI V6. Sorry about all this but I guess I've learned a little info about Beretta engines from all this.

Roller Rockers and Roller Lifters are two different things...

3100's have roller lifters, I don't even know if they have roller rockers or not, guess I never really checked it out...

3.1 have neither...

i don't know jack about any on these camshaft and roller rocker lifters or whatever. Could someone perhaps write a basic FAQ article about it. Perhaps going into detail about differences in camshafts? Just a suggestion if someone on here is bored.
