I'd hook it back up Andy. It isn't going to harm anything and I know the EGR does effect the 02 so if you hook it up and reset the computer my guess is it would be fine.

You should hook the EGR back up.

There is no performance gain or any cooler air to be had. (This from a guy who has a specially modified 3500 UIM with the EGR welded shut, but I didn't do it, and wouldn't have.)

Also, bypassing the coolant lines to the TB is just a waste of time. The air passes there so quickly there is no way it could affect the temperature at all.

They are simply there to keep the throttle blade from potentially icing up.

My TB has no ports, and my egr is fully hooked up ;)

There is a port on the TB adapter isn't there? Or do you have an adapter?

There is on mine. I run the FPR and Cruise/HVAC vacuum from there.

I have a NOS fogger in my throttle body spacer... and I get my VAC from the factory 3500 IAC port I think it is..

yes, this 1989GT DID have the coolant line "turning around" at the base of the throttle body - it has been disconnected. I say turning around because it does not contain jackets to route coolant around the intake tube/body - its used as a fitting more or less to route the coolant line out the opposite direction of it coming in... either way, its disconnected.

Disconnecting the EGR does nothing for performance?
well, I noticed with it hooked up, no engine codes, I get 27mpg. I drive 30miles to work at 50mph... one way. about 12 tanks of gas show this.

With it disconnected, and getting the code 13 and 44 intermittently [due to hot exhaust temp?] I am getting 34mpg. .. this is only from the first two tanks of gas running like this. The car does not surge when the light comes on... throwing it into open loop mode for O2 inop. huh.

So have others done this EGR bypass to find out that there is no engine code? I just find it hard to believe when I hook up the vac line to the egr valve I don't get the code 13. When I block the egr vac line, I get 13 and 44, intermittently through driving. Its annoying, but I'd like to keep it bypassed.

Has anyone else bypassed a vacuum-style EGR?

Oh, and I bypassed the coolant line to TB for maintenance #1 reason... I had to recondition fuel injectors and that line was an unnecessary pain... so it helps when pulling the plenum off.

Hmm. What ECM you running? I take it you have a 3800 in there? What year?

Jon, the port on the 3500 is evap solenoid there. The IAC function is built into the drive-by-wire TB.

no no, the 3.8 lemon is fine [though its digital egr valve needs bypassing now that I think of it - but thats a separate case]

- this 89gt is a different car

stock ecu, call it a stock intake for now too. I just want to know how to get this engine light off, and if why its being set

[ the question is if the egr valve is bypassed by plugging the vacuum line at the intake after unplugging the egr vac line, will the rise in exhaust temperature throw the oxy sensor reading off the computer map and set a code 13?]

surely someone out there has done this already so I don't need to re-invent the wheel

I thought that line was for the heater. Does your heater still work?
