3100 throttle body

Post by speed7432 »

Wondering what the size of the bore is on the stock throttle body for a 96' 3100.

im not sure on the measurements,to be exact.. but i do know a 3400 TB is 5 or 6 mm at least larger then the 3100.

I have a 3400 TB on my 96 3100 right now and it seems to love it.

What i did was grab a 3400 TB.
took the throttle linkage out and the rod that moves the throttle plate

Took the 3100 TB apart and put the throttle linkage and rod that moves the throttle plate and put onto the 3400 TB.

then your throttle cable will hook up exact same since your using the 3100 linkages ect..

I also put a short piece of aluminum piping from a old cold air intake, and adapted it to fit in the space, put a round filter right on the end of the MAF.

When i open it up, sounds like an air plane under the hood the way it sucks in the air.

Stock 3100 TBs are 52mm. A 3400 TB is 56mm. A 3100 does benefit from the larger TB as it does allow a more voluminous amount of air in. Its nothing really that can be dynoed, but you can feel it in the butt dyno off the line. These engines also benefit from a true cold air intake. Anytime you can reduce the intake temps, the better the motor likes it

Thanks for the info, the 3100 would benefit from the throttle body swap due to the fact that the stock one is the same bore as a GM 2.2l 4 cyl. im gonna look around the junkyard for a 3400.

pretty simple to change it up, i have a couple 3400 tb's laying around but live in Canada, shipping is probably more then it will cost you for one at the JY.

took me maybe an hour, to take the 3100 TB off, pull it apart, slap the parts into the 3400 TB and bolt back on. the throttle linkage hooks up different so you just change the entire shaft that moves the throttle plate from one to the other and your go to go, the throttle plate in the 3400 TB will screw right onto the 3100 rod/shaft whatever you wanna call it lol, the holes line up the same. thats the easiest way i could see how to do it.

I have yet to do any grinding on the 3400 TB and polish it, but with the swap and different air filter i noticed a little tiny bit of increase.
