Got a tough call a work...

Post by K_Watson »

So... I got a call at work today from a young guy who's car had been powdered with Comet (Sodium Hydroxide based drain cleaner) and he wanted to know how he could tell if they had also put it in his gas tank and what he should do if they did... that was a tough one to break to him... $$$$

ooooo. better drain the gas tank if there is any sign that points to it going in the tank.

Just Seafoam it, done.

Did he tell you what he did to deserve it? I ask assuming that it wasn't just some random act of course.

it's kinda easy to see if they put it in the gas tank since it would still be on the inside of the filler neck ..unless they are the type of criminal that stays behind to clean up that particular spot which given the fact that they dumped it all over the car i would lean towards no.

Damn I miss my locking gas cap.
Sure hope they didn't have a funnel.

You just got to hope they are not expecting to run into one. Or know about it in the first place.

He said the car has a latched gas cover but they had been inside the car because stuff had been moved around, he said he sometimes kept a funnel in the back floorboard, but he could not remember if it was in there and can't find it, so they could have used it, if it was there. That's why he wanted to know how he could tell...

I was told his best friend's car (parked next to him) had been egged the night before and he came out later after it rained to find green goo dripping from the corners of the car and a Comet can under his tire.

Ouch. Well the filter is not going to stop that stuff. The grit yes, but not the slime that is makes. We had that stuff in our house when I was a kid. Nasty stuff.

same thing as the locking gas cap. hell you wouldn't even need a screw driver to pry the door open. just use a pocket knife.
