In reality they really arent... they are quite small journals as well, I think its an optical illusion... For reference those cam bearings in the picture are from the Beretta...

I'm going to agree with the optical illusion. I didn't see the cam bearings the first time I looked at the photo.

I understand sending the block out, but why did you send the rods and head?

Don't judge me, I'm new to rebuilding engines!

From what I understand, (and I can be corrected I'm sure).

When you have the block redone like Jon is doing, they are probably going to work over the bearing journals and seats. The cylinders. The head will probably be milled (just enough to make it flat again) etc. Crank may get a slight trim on the bearing surfaces and/or polished.

Then it will get new bearings that fit the block and crank's resize (whatever thousandths they remove of material) then he can fit it together, torque the caps on the bearing and rods, make sure the clearances are within tolerance and reassemble Stephanie, reassemble!

LOL

See if anyone gets that last part. :P

The very scary part about that is my new Galaxy S4's lock screen says Jonny 5 on it rather than the original "life companion"... HAHAHA

To answer your question Pat... The car has 154k or so on it... I'm sure the valve seats are worn and especially the one that saw the chunk of piston in it, also the head took a bit of a beating from that piece of piston floating around in the cylinder and anytime you pull a head off you should have it checked for flatness to ensure it will re-seal with new gaskets.

I left them the crank so they could look it over and just polish the journals up and let me know if a standard size set of new bearings would be sufficient or if he saw anything that would result in it having to be turned and use over sized bearings. The rods I left to also just have checked and have the #4 one cleaned up, since the piston smeared down the wall of the cylinder it also heated up to the point of melting some and sprayed piston material all over the rod... I wanted that all cleaned off before going back together.

This is far enough in of a failure to just go with a near full engine build, you reach a point where you have the engine 100% apart to fix the issue that you might as well just freshen everything up so when it goes back into the car it should be good for another 150k+...

This is why the list of parts I'm buying is so long too.

Coolant Crossover Pipe PN 21328AA011
Crossover Hoses PN 807611031
PVC S pipe PN 99071AD140
Oil Return hose PN 807515712
ACL Main Bearings STD size
ACL Rod Bearings STD size
07 Gasket Kit
11mm EJ25 Oil Pump
Gates Racing Timing belt kit
Clutchmaster FX100 Clutch kit
TSK3 Kit Transmission snout sleeve and throwout kit
CP Forged EJ25 Pistons 8.2 CR .25mm overbore
Right Inner timing cover PN 13573AA131
Killer-B Oil Pickup tube

Thats a total of just over 2k in parts only... :( And thats with REALLY good price breaks from FredBeansParts... They have really helped me out pricing wise.
