Re: My Legacy Rebuild...
Got my cam holding tools today and they came right off... Go figure.
Head removed from 2 and 4
Head looks to have survived enough to be refreshed and re-used.
Headless...
I can only get #4 piston out without a huge alan wrench
Fits on the bench... LOL...
Scored Cylinder
Hope to talk to the machine shop tomorrow and then drop the stuff off and maybe get the pistons ordered by Thursday... Still waiting to hear back from a Subaru employee an acquaintance knows to see if he can get me a discount on parts.

Yeah wait till I split the block in half and start rebuilding the rotating assy...
Re: My Legacy Rebuild...
In a small way, it reminds me of the days of rebuilding the old VW bug engines... LOL Didn't realize it was a horizontal engine with an opposing setup. Interesting.
And to think those engines were air cooled. HA. 40HP (something like 1600cc, or such, memory is foggy) as a base design. Best we have beefed one was up around 2500cc, maybe 2800. Hard to remember. (we used to build dune buggies or rail buggies) It was fun to make them stand up and do wheelies with them. lol
Anyway. Lots of work there. Glad its not me. What the hell are you driving, if both of your cars are down?

Everyone needs something to do in their spare time! LOL!
However I do admire the fact you don't mess around and put things off!

I did that with an VW boxer engine back when I was in college (auto tech.) and it was definitely a unique experience.3X00-Modified wrote:Yeah wait till I split the block in half and start rebuilding the rotating assy...

Re: My Legacy Rebuild...
Well its all apart and in the back of the Jimmy... Heads block crank and rods all going to the machine shop tonight.
I don't know how this thing can hold as much power as it does... Look at the size of this crank! thats a 3/8 inch/lb torque wrench next to it... 120-960in/lb range on the wrench for reference.
I feel like I took apart a Briggs motor!

Re: My Legacy Rebuild...
LOL I didn't even do that on purpose... HAHA but I did buy that wrench specifically for this project too... so I didn't own that one. I need it because there are a lot of 7.5ft/lb torques on the block half's and such that I need to do, other wrench doesn't go down that far, and it's 1/2 drive vs this 3/8's
