Camaro paint job...after almost 10 years

Post by woody90gtz »

This August I'll have my car 10 years...hard to believe it has taken me this long to paint it! haha

I started the body work on it recently and I'm excited to make some progress. So far I've blown it apart, modified the core support and bumper brackets to work with my wedged subframe (more body drop, same ground clearance) and fit some 2010 Camaro side markers in the fender. I like the style a lot better than the original one and it fits the lines pretty nicely.

I'll keep posting some progress pics in this thread as it comes along. Still a long way to go.

What Color are you going with? You know 10's were available in Aqua right? Am I the only one who likes this color, come on?
Not a huge fan of gen 2's really, but I'd drive it! They are still resonably priced too, but somewhat hard to find in good shape. This thing looks like it's in nice shape man! Look forward to seeing more.

It's not really Aqua, it's Jet Blue IIRC... my dad was debating between that color and the orange metallic one... he went orange.

I've been looking for the perfect blue for a while and I think I found it on NastyZ28...a guy just painted his this slate blue:

Here's a Photoshop I did from forever ago that is still the basic plan. I picked up the stripes cheap from a guy who had his wife change his mind to the orange/red ones. haha

The big hood is a necessity. The EFI intake manifold is pretty tall, and the wedged subframe for more body drop also reduces hood clearance. Even with the old carb intake and a drop base air cleaner it was tight with the smaller cowl. With the new one I can just fit the air cleaner on without a drop base, or I can use a drop base and a nitrous plate! haha

And I forgot, here's a quick Photoshop from last year...this is the cowl hood I used to have on it.

Actually there's a ripoff thread on Nastyz28 about Feathercarbon. Lots of guys out $$$ with no parts. And those L88 hoods are god awful ugly.

Sweet project! I almost bought a purple 79' with a horrible little 305 in it about 13 years ago. Always liked this gen.
I like the color your looking at. It would complimet a pro-touring settup well.

I agree, I've always had a strong hate for the L88 hood on an F-Body.
Damn.....wish I could remember what color I wanted the 67 Camaro to have. It was a GM blue that was a little lighter than your photoshop. Close to the 90's blue that they had on trucks. There was also a nice but rare Ford navy blue that I liked.
When it comes to the 80-81 Z28's I have two loves when it comes to stock paint. One is the navy with the lighter stripes and the other is the silver with blue stripes. There are other loves to be sure, but I really like those. Also the 79 in Fast Times at Ridgemont High is something that I like.

It would look absolutely sinister with some TruckLite LED headlights.

I like that color blue man. Nice. I got the info on the 2010 Camaros coming in Aqua from gran turismo 5. That is an option for a factory color. They usually get that kind of stuff right. It's not Bright aqua mettallic like the Berettas were, just aqua mettallic. To my knowledge it was only available on 2010's, which I think is cool because it was only available on Berettas 1 year also. Z26's at least. That dark blue you are lookin into reminds me of Blue Ray Mettallic, which is also a new Camaro color.

2.2H8TA - that color is called Imperial Blue Metallic on the early run of the new Camaro's.

I think they killed it in 2012.
