Space saver can openers obsolete
Space saver can openers obsolete
So our B & D space saver can opener stopped working.
This is maybe the third over thirty years so no complaint there.
I thought I'd buy a new one. You can't find the under the
cabinet type. I guess they went out of style.
So I go to Ebay hoping for new old stock.
Some are asking hundreds of dollars for them.
This is an item that went for $50 or so. One
seller had their price over $500!!!!!!
Used ones are going for $50 to $70.
So I go back to mine. I found a piece of plastic broke
off but I was able to weld a piece of sheet metal
onto the other side to restore function.
Seems I have to "fixalot" these days.
Geesh!

You DO UNDERSTAND that even Off-Topic should be at least somewhat automotive related!

any pics or links to what you have? A few places by me have vintage stuff of the sorts and might be a viable resource.

Sorry you didn't like my post but I thought it was okay to post miscellaneous
ramblings in off topic.

On topic (in off topic lol)...
I remember the under counter ones you mention, my parents had (have) one in their kitchen. I wish I had one in my kitchen!

Friend of mine, their parents had one. I thought it was funny when ever it was used there cat would prowl the area.
we had the mechanical off brand that mounted underside. However, my folks did have a sweet Dust Buster mounted to the wall in the closet. was an anniversary gift from the grand parent. Sure made lugging that eureka limited for small cleanup jobs!

Re: Space saver can openers obsolete
My God we have devolved into the Black and Decker Forum!
ROFL!!
And I'M the "old guy"?
I may have one in my dead Mother's locker if you want me to go look for it.
Along with some Fizzies, a couple of canisters of Carter's Little Liver Pills. and an Easy-Bake Oven or two.
Know what they are going for these days?
So what did you do automotive-wise that might be relative to the Forum today?

Not much automotive wise today, I received in and left feedback for the 2nd Doorman 800-401 which, with recent son in law, we'll be installing with a new radiator today, (Saturday), on my daughter's 96-z26.Asylum wrote:

Thanks again to Corvetteberretta for identifying the name of the part.
Re: Space saver can openers obsolete
No one needs can-openers anymore anyway it seems -most (at least many) of the cans out there now have their own openers (pull rings, and scored lids for 'easy open') built in... Lazy.
Of course, I also remember when you needed a can-opener ("spout") for engine oil! There, now that is automotive-related... As well as old-person related.
