Once the stock tail light circuit boards burn out in these trucks, the cheapo replacements SUCK. They're junk. I've had a ton of issues with them killing my brake & turn lamps. So I just hardwired mine and also added a 194 to tail circuit to illuminate the whole light, and wired the stop/turn circuit in to the second 3057 since it seems pointless to have a 2-circuit bulb and only use one circuit.

I cut a board out of 1/8" ABS sheet stock on the CNC and used 96-98 Grand Am tail harnesses to wireit in. Cut the circuit board plug off the stock harness and crimped, soldered & heat shrunk the connections and taped it all together. Plenty of wire to remove the tails and get to the lights. I'm happy.

I'm going to cut another board with the keyway for a headlight bulb in the reverse spot and see if I like it. I can run it with a relay to take the load off the wiring, but it might not even need it considering the short amount of time the reverse lights are generally on for...

You know.

I'm totally surprised you haven't gone and converted that thing over to LED or something. The aftermarket options for those trucks are insane. I don't even have to make them! LOL

This is the work pig. I don't want anything shiny and nice on it. Most of them look gay anyway. haha

This cost me $6 for the tail harnesses at the junkyard. And if I bust a tail light it will cost me $10 to replace it.

Made my own cargo hooks for the bed floor today and finally wired up my temp mirror. Hooks are made out of 1-1/4 exhaust clamps for less than $2/per. Redneck engineering...can't beat it!

again! good work... i have to get me one of them there mirrors, with the compass too... (any clue where the temp sensor normally is located (on newer z71's or otherwise equipped vehicles) and is the compass "sensor" in the mirror itself?

The compass part will work without any external sensor. And I've gotta think the temp sensor will be in the grille of any car that has one, because it is the best place to get a reading. I got mine from someone on the truck forum who stockpiles them from the yard. I've got one in the Beretta and truck now...might even do the Camaro, too.

i had one in the tahoe for the longest time and just hooked it up a couple months ago, mine has the compass and temp on the same display... i wish they made a factory one for the overhead console instead of that stupid blank panel for the rear hvac. im also going to put a compass temp lighted mirror in the camaro since the lighting in that car sucks.

i still have a couple of regular compass temp mirrors if any one wants one. ;-)

Compass temp lighted? I didn't know there was such a beast. That would be perfect for my Camaro, too. I have a lighted Beretta mirror in it now. I put a '90 overhead console in the Beretta so I still had map lights with the temp mirror.

Doesn't seem that long ago I welded this exhaust up...not even 4 years. My welds held, but the "Thrush welded" didnt. I guess that's aluminized in NY...

So this time I bought stainless. I got a universal Magnaflow muffler & truck tail pipe.

Fitment was actually awesome. Amazingly good for universal...I didn't even have to turn on the welder. I just used hangers from the parts store with u-clamps. One in the stock location and one on the leaf springs eyelet bolt.

It's really smooth and quieter than I expected. I'll have a better idea of how I like it in a week or so. I'll post a vid, too. The Thrush was a lot beastlier sounding. haha

I was going to ask the same thing... And if you don't have the right gas or wire dont even try to weld that with your welder.

Duh. I didn't weld any of it. That was the reason I bought pre-bent. I thought I might have to weld a hanger or something but it all went pretty easy.

Hauled some scrap for my old man yesterday. He bought another 68 Cuda in CT. Those 3/4 ton springs are tits! And I'm glad I upgraded to 1-ton calipers and 3/4 ton drums because the brakes on the trailer we borrowed didnt work. That thing was hand made in the 70s and it was heavy. I'm guessing the trailer was probably close to 3000lbs which would make the total pull about 6000. I'm getting a little better at "truckin" too, backing up trailers and stuff. Takes some practice.
