I think it is called Clock Modulation, but for temperature. My computer has that and I can turn it off if I want.
Which I did for one run to see how high it would actually go, then I turned it back on. Those temperatures are in Celsius.
I can also set the threshold temperature for when it starts down clocking, but I left it at 105'c, which is max allowed with it on.

I know I'm shortening the life of this CPU, but you can not have fun if you do not play with it. It is a physiological thing I guess.
I know my older desktop computer like the Pentium III, that one shut off when it got too hot. But the newer ones like my G72gx laptop, it does not shut off at the threshold So I do have to watch I do not burn it up if I have the modulation disabled. With the clock modulation enabled and no fat, but still having the heat pipes, it will go as low as 500 MHz and around 0.6 vCore to stay cold, but that is it, it will stay on.
