Simple question. I have been thinking about removing the resonator in my 3100, just want to know if it will sound like crap or maybe sound really good with a one or two chambered muffler.

It doesn't really make too much of a difference.  Just sound a bit more 3.1 ish

I removed mine. Cut it out and had a friend TIG weld a new straight pipe in it's place. I already had a dynomax Ultra-flo straight through muffler on there. Other than that the exahaust is stock.

1) There is less rasp, and it does sound more 3.1mpfi rumblish.
2) Sound isn't that much louder but sounds better.
3) The horsepower increase was surprising! 2nd gear actually pulls some starting at 40mph! It helps flow a lot.

My dynomax Ultra flo Stainless steel is nice. It's just as shiney as day 1.

The normal ones are good too. They offer straight through flow and sound good.

If you want louder then you'll need larger pipes, and no cat or a high flow cat. The cat is what is quiting my exhaust down. It's got 180k on it too...

I dont know how they are constructed. It wont sound ricey unless you have a 4cyl.
That's what makes the weed-eater sound, is 4cyl.
