Walker Quiet-flow SS install

Post by Godlike »

I spent hours (at work) looking for an stainless muffler with less restriction than stock that was quiet. My Z26 doesn't need to make noise. Heres what found for anyone looking for a wisper quiet exhaust:
ImageImage
Walker Quietflow SS #21339
Inlet Diameter (in): 2.250 in.
Offset
Outlet Diameter (in): 2.250 in.
Center
Case Length (in): 19.000 in. Overall Length (in): 32.750 in. Thickness (in): 4.250 in. Width (in): 9.750 in.
Not a bolt in. Everything was cut to fit by me and I added some sheet metal for mounting front and rear. I love doing my own exhaust especially on these cars because theres lots of room for improvement and plenty of space to experiment.

Even with blown out centers in the stock tips its crazy quiet.
Here is the rest of my settup: Stock 3400 manifolds and all + Grand am 2.4L flange + 2 1/4" down pipe (custom exhaust shop) + 3" cat + stock cat-back

I've been thinking about doing the same for mine. A QuietFlo or a long case Super Turbo. Brendan said he likes his. Does it have any of the v6 burble?

I know. haha

I've gotten spoiled now with a v8 DD. The v6 just doesn't sound as good anymore.

haven't been under the car since i parked it a few months back but i have a 4" round magnaflow muffler in the middle..it's not a bad muffler i still get the sound out the car i want without being uber obnoxious and when i want to get obnoxious i still got the edelbrock muffler..

the overall sound of mine will be completely different from his. no matter how many mufflers i put on the car it will never be anywhere near stock quiet thanks to the cam..

Eric, I was actually looking at the Dynomax vt mufflers first. Its funny I youtubed it and tripped over your vid right away.
In the end I just wanted to be as quiet as possible and it worked out good. It pretty much sounds like a new car. You still get a slight burble at idle if your standing behind it just letting you know its a 60*. It also seems like the quieter they are the quicker they "feel"

Too bad you can't get a Corsa muffler - while it is expensive - it absolutely doesn't drone.

I've got it on the G8 with long tubes - and while it gets loud - it quiets down at highway speeds.

I also have a set of Corsa on the Vette - and same thing - quiets down at highway speeds and LS7 manifolds.

I think they offer a muffler for a Grand Prix - but I'm not sure that can be retrofitted between the W-body and the Burrito.

Interesting... ive never looked into Corsa before. I just figured they would be loud. I love the Borla XS on my GTZ but that car will shake the siding off your house.

I like the VT most of the time, but it has this flutter on decel and it still lets out a fart crackle pop from time to time. Not nearly as bad as the Borla or Blowmaster...but still annoying.

Corsa builds it specific to application and they design so there is no drone... I worked with them a long time ago on a project at GM. They don't make a "universal" muffler and even if you took one from another application it may have drone as they design and test it so works with the particualr engine.... their motto awesome sound at full throttle wisper quiet at cruise. Nothing and I mean nothing sounds better on a LS engine then their stuff......

Matt - exactly why both of my cars have there cat/axle back systems.

Woody - does the VT have the valve in it that opens up?

Yeah. And for the most part it works...only in certain circumstances does it flutter. Dynomax recommends one muffler for under 4.0L or dual exhaust, and a different for over 4.0L and single exhaust. I'm thinking the 3.4 with headers and 2.5 pipe may just breathe too well for the "under 4.0" version that I have.

I'll be honest man a properly designed muffler > flappy paddle valve thingies.

The valves in the z06 exhaust I had droned terribly.
