One of my buddies just bought my wagon, so he doesnt' need the winter tires he bought for his good ride. He works at a tire shop so he only paid 145CDN (110US) for FOUR very good quality snow/ice tires. My Beretta just has the regular 16" all-seasons on it.

Anyways...I know 185/60/14 is retardedly small, but I could get them DIRT CHEAP and they've got like 300 miles on them...what do you guys think?

also...will Cavalier rims bolt straight up? (there's a set of winters on Cavy rims for sale locally too)

I have the stock 185/60/14's on my retta all year long. Too cheap to spend more for a daily set of tires and rims and yes the cavi rims should bolt on.

Stock Beretta size is 195/70/14R unless the older years were more narrow and smaller sidewall... But I find that hard to believe.  I just put some 195/70/14's on my car for winter, I usually run 225/50/16's in the summer... and yes those occasionally rub

Yep, a nice skinny 14" does a lot for handling in the snow - I have a set from an old Caravan (go ahead and laugh, I did - but seriously, that 100mm bolt circle comes on a lot of FWDs).  The stock 15" 205's are awesome on dry pavement (well, stock for the GT alloys, anyway...3100-95 is right, stock steelies are 14" and are the same wheels used on J-bodies), but they're too damn wide for a 2900lb car in the snow.

I run 185/75/14 in the winter. They are cheap all season tires but since they are narrow, they bite down to the pavement.

Even brand new all season 205/55/16's were useless to me in winter with full tread. I would park on a flat street, put in in D, and one wheel was spinning just from the motor idling before I even gave it gas. I had to wheel spin until the tire grabbed, then both would turn. Forget going up hills or turning onto roads. And where I live we have TONS of 45degree hills.

Now with the 14's in 185 width (smallest I'd go on a v6 car) I can stop on a really snowy day on one of them 45 degree hills, and take off. With the 205/16's I wouldn't even make it up the hill with a running start, I'd start to spin and then slide backwards down the whole hill. The 14's I can even hit the gas kind of hard and spin a little but still pull up the hill.

It's amazing what 20mm narrower tire will do.

Allthought my 14's now rub on the ebrake cable since I replaced it and they put wheel weights on the inside of the rim... It ground some off the outer jacket and I don't hear it now anymore though.

Good size for snow.
